i donno if ellers is the 2C we're looking for and with that being said we're trading 5 years of girard for a 1st and a rental, seems underwhelming when we're in win now mode.

I like Eller to the avs a lot and would love girard, but a 2023 first is quite a lot to be giving up for one of the only guys on colorado who was bad last year. The Caps also have a lot of decisions coming up next offseason on D with Orlov and Jensen hitting FA (as well as the backstrom uncertainty) and I don't know if they want to handcuff themselves now. It makes more sense to be split into two separate deals with Eller going to COL now for a mid/late round pick and the Caps making a move for Girard next offseason if Orlov or Jensen walks.

I'd jump on this trade as a caps fan which means the Avs should probably say no lol.

'Bad' is something of an overstatement. Most Avs fans would say that's maybe fair value (biased perhaps to a degree) though I don't personally see Eller as the answer.

LIke QC said above me, I think this trade only happens if Washington knows either Jensen or Orlov is going to walk at the end of the year. Seems like good value though.
