I really liked having World Juniors in the summer. Not just because of the fact I got to watch hockey in august. But because it reminded people that some prospects r really ****ing good and won’t get traded for rentals.

A 99 point guy on an expiring contract who is nearly 30. You aren’t getting the isles top prospect who was arguably Finland’s best player at the tournament for an expiring JT Miller.

It’s almost like that dude is almost 30 and is on an expiring deal! Forgot to mention that didn’t you?

The Isles team is aging and their prospect pool is pretty bad. So, trading away the few top picks & prospects they have for a 30yr old player (who's contract expires next summer) probably isn't something they'd be interested in doing.

pretty likely Raty doesnt become close to the player miller is RIGHT NOW. getting him on a bargain contract and likely with retention. everyone on this website put so much into potential as if cups are won on who has the most promising prospects as if they all pan out. Miller trade also likely comes with an extension

If you have seen Raty play then you know he’s gonna pan out.

I’m not interested in paying for the player Miller use to be for the next eight seasons. Maybe he has 2 or 3 high end years left. I don’t expect more than that tho.

No. no i dont. and you dont either. impossible to predict what a 19 year old kid is gonna be in his prime. Miller is a sure thing. Raty is still young and has big potential dont get me wrong. but its extremly likely he NEVER reaches the level of Miller right now

I’m not claiming to know the future. But he looks like he’s gonna be a really good player for the next decade based on his world juniors and Ligga performance. Maybe you need to stop focusing on the value of one year of Miller compared to a decade of solid production from a player.

It seemed extremely unlikely Miller would ever got to this point when he was with the Lightning or the Rangers. He put up big numbers the past couple years on teams have won jack ****. I’m not interested in overpaying for Miller cause he was good in Vancouver. Seems like some Canucks fans are really struggling with the fact that guys start to decline as they get older.

Not saying he wont be. Theres cleraly value on both sides. comes down to wether Lou thinks the isles are still competitive and their window is still open. Raty wont provide anywhere close the the value miller would in the next 5 years. so the only way this trade wouldnt be benificial for the islanders is if they are going to rebuild. which means trading everyone not names barzal or dobson as the have on of the older teams in the league

First off you forgot Sorokin on your list. Secondly you are wrong to assume Raty won’t out produce Miller in the next five years. Miller wouldn’t be the first guy to fall off a cliff after age 30 lol.

Your acting like the guy is gonna fall off of a cliff the second he turns 30. the style he plays doesnt indicate he will regress heavily before 35 he has plenty of years left as an elite 1C

There isn’t value on NYI’s side tho. You want a top prospect for a rental. Not just the isles top prospect. Raty has legit talent and I’d rather bet on Raty and be wrong then trade for Miller and give him big money as he enters his 30’s.

im wrong to assume Raty wont be an elite first line centre who plays in all situations in his first few years in the league? get real

if thats your mindset then the islanders need to rebuild their core and get younger

An elite 1C? That’s one way of looking at Miller for sure. He might age better on the wing like Pavelski has. But I wouldn’t bet on him being this good until 35 cause most guys aren’t that good until 35. What a ridiculous take.

I never said he would be. I said that Miller might not be a first line center in a few years either. It’s part of the aging process bro. You have to know when to move on from a guy. Better that you let him walk too early than too late.

Or is thinking hes going to magically fall off a cliff the second he turns 30 more of a ridiculous take? or to say Raty is a sure thing? you tell me

You can’t rebuild with Sorokin net. They will need to retool for sure. But it seems like Dufour and Raty will be able to provide middle six value for the isles based on how they’ve played so far. I never said either guy is a superstar. I’m just saying I’d rather have an effective middle six guy for the next decade than a declining center in his 30’s.
