I think in terms of fit on a surface level, it would work for both teams. However, if the Leafs can pay Durzi 2.5, then they can pay Sandin the same. The Leafs do have a surplus on the left side at this time but in two years they will need 2 new LD, so Sandin isn't exactly expendable in the long-term.

Might be a fair trade, but ignoring cap just isn't a reality.

Sandin doesn’t want to sign because there’s 3 LDs blocking his path to playing

This idea has been floated before.

Sandin for Durzi is just not as good a fit as it seems at first blush. Toronto has two senior citizens and no one else at LhD behind Reilly. To me, Sandin (or a young replacement, whom you don't currently have in the system) is an absolute essential this season. And I don't see why we would have less trouble signing Sandin to a new contract than the Maple Leafs have had, and he'd have to come in at $1.75 million or less to keep us under the cap because we still have Mikey Anderson to re-sign. Plus, with Anderson, Sandin, Tobias Bjornfot and Alex Edler on the left, Jakob Moverare is exposed because he's not waivers-exempt (or else we'd have to send Bjornfot down to Ontario or pare ourselves down to 13 forwards when we already have one extra). Bottom line: Toronto needs Sandin, and Los Angeles would have trouble adjusting the roster for him.

Sandin for Moverare plus a high draft pick (or Sean Walker!*) has some appeal. Sandin for Durzi is a roll of the dice for a front office that is pretty conservative, because to me, Durzi has shown more potential than Sandin. Other realistic possibilities become ever more complicated. This is one of those annoying situations where the idea seems like a really good one, but it just becomes two square pegs in two round holes.

*I've looked at this, and it would require moving BOTH Alex Kerfoot and Justin Holl.

Yes, that's part of the issue which is why he's asking for 2.5m or whatever similar to Boqvist is because if he's going to play on his offside or be the 7th D, then at least he wants to get paid. The whole reason why he's worried about being blocked is because it will affect his development and in turn his next pay check.

Otherwise, there is a clear path for him to have a top 4 spot in two years, but if he takes 1.4-1.6 that can easily come back to haunt him if he doesn't do great trying to fight for a spot.

Toronto isn't going to offer Sandin 2.5m and they wouldn't offer Durzi that either was my point.

The issue I see with Durzi is Niemela

Niemela is probs gonna push for a job in 2023 and when that happens our right side is

Brodie, Liligren, Niemela so were back to square one.

I say have Sandin play RD for this year and then see if Muzzin decides his body has had enough and retires/sits out for 2023. then for 2023-2024

Brodie is better as a RD though. Yes he can play LD but then it creates more issues down the road.

Like honestly what I see for 2022
