He's a 50 pt scorer, leader, and solid 2-way player

Couple things wrong here. Valimaki isn't a piece the Sabres need or want, but the 2nd is nice. Unfortunately, okposo is possibly/probably going to be named captain. The story here is that after several years of not remotely living up to his contract, he accepted and flourished in a lesser role and has become a locker room leader on a team with young kids. You could say- if you dried that out, you could fertilize your lawn with it. And not all Sabres fans would argue with you, but the organization seems to be buying it, so it's more likely that okposo continues his career here with a C on his jersey and a somewhat cheaper extension. I don't see them retaining 50% to move THAT guy out for a late second and a left d that probably gets stuck in the ahl.

Last time he hit 50 points was 2016. Since then he's been a serviceable 3rd/4th liner who had a decent season last year. I doubt he repeats it. If Okposo can get that return so can Lucic

Honestly, you are probably right. He got some time on pp2, and a little bit of time in the middle 6 last year, time that I can't imagine calgary (or a different contender) would give him. If all you want him for is to roll him out for 8 minutes a night with two guys with hooves for hands, which is probably closer to how he would be used. Again, even on a pretend website, I can't for the life of me imagine the Sabres trading okposo right now anyway.

Do you research IMO. Last time Okposo touched 50 PTS was with the Islanders in 2016. He’s a freaking bottom 6 player.

Dude Okposo put up 45 points and 21 goals. Lucic put up 10 goals and 21 points. That’s less than half the points and goals. Plus he was on the Buffalo Sabres. Okposo is a good leader, great 2 way guy, and we’ll see what the offense is but as of right now, he’s more of an offensive threat than Lucic.

I think I would like to see lucic race okposo and a goalie in full gear.

I also just noticed that He’s in the top six. And Dube is on the 4th line. EW

Thats because he didn't play on the Sabres 4th line, he had the 5th highest average ice time of forwards on the Sabres last year. Maybe use a bigger sample size than 1 season. He is simply no more than a 4th liner on any competing team.

Lucic isn't slow, he's pretty average speed wise. Tkachuk and Monahan were both much slower skaters on the Flames in the last 5 years

Okposo Generally played on the 2nd or 3rd line. If you think he'd be a 4th line player for Calgary you're out to lunch, he'd still be a serviceable 3rd line winger and likely a Sutter type of player because he plays a 200 foot game. As for previous years, you should take a look at the injury he suffered a couple of years ago and the reason why his play level dipped. He found his game again this season after hard work in getting himself back to where he was prior to a pretty nasty concussion he suffered.

Maybe know context before crapping on a player you clearly know next to nothing about. Especially one who would have been 5th on the Flames in goals scored last season. This nonsense that a player on a bad team is a 4th liner on a competing team is just that, nonsense.

Unlike Islander fans i have reasoning. Okposo is the Sabres undisputed locker room leader. The production last year was a bonus. The Sabres arent tanking and have a lot of fantastic prospects (#1 pool in the league) so a mid to late 2nd and an AHL defenseman, LD at that, have very little value

If he can put up 20+ goals and almost 50 points in a higher role then he’s probably not on the 4th line. Plus like I said he brings a lot more than just the points.

Compare him to a similar kind of guy like Lehkonen. Okposo is older and likely won’t resign but they would have similar value. He shouldn’t quite get a 1st like Lehkonen but it’s close. A 2nd and Valimaki is fair.

Would you rather have Coleman in the top 6? They need a 2 RW

I guess he could play second line (he’s better than Coleman), but he is more so a 3rd liner. But role players can get good returns

No he isnt, Valimaki would start in the A and the Sabres still have a ton of unsigned LD prospects that supplant both

Okposo being the locker room leader doesnt change the fact that he is nothing more than a depth player on a contender. Lucic is an excellent locker room leader on Calgary and I would absolutely hate to trade him because of what he brings but teams aren't going to pay good value for him.

Also calling Valimaki an AHL defenseman when the Flames have the #1 dcore in the league top to bottom is pretty disingenuous, he would still at least challenge for a full time lineup spot on half the league including the Sabres
