If the Hawks traded Debrincat because they were worried about his next contract/didnt think hed be part of the future core, I think they certainly wouldnt be interested in Nylander. You could make an interesting 3 team deal out of it though if you think theres another team where he would fit. something along the lines of Kane to TOR, Nylander to wherever, and then the return for Nylander just goes to the Hawks or something like that. idk. its something new i guess

Value aside I just think when they move Kane it's for futures and not just another guy who will be a ufa the next season.

Given Chicago traded Debrincat for draft picks I doubt they'd have interest in Nylander. They would just turn around and need to flip him for assets that work for their rebuild which simply makes more work for them on their end. I'd expect they would want picks/prospects as the return with a capdump as needed.

Chicago is rebuilding. They don’t want someone who won’t help when they are ready to compete. Nylander is a good player, but so many issues pop up. NTC/2 years he is needing a raise/ doesn’t help CHI these two years/etc.

Also, I’ll just say this for the Duck fans out there, ANA probably passes for the 79th time this week on Holl.

that is what i was going for, with a smaller cap hit they could retain and get a decent haul for him, this would be a trade that would need to be done pre season. they could hold nylander and flip him at the deadline and retain if they wanted to increase his value, imagine getting a player for a season and a half for under 3.5 mil.

I imagine Chicago would demand the world for Nylander 50% retained for 1.3 of a season, and I think they would be disappointed by what the market has the ability to pay.

The 5 mil retention alone on Kane's deal is worth a 2nd round pick if not more at this point. Even assuming Chicago would entertain the deal on the basis of 1 for 1, Toronto would need to add for the retention.

Also, Ducks decline taking Kerfoot, waive him if you want, but we dont need another RD.

Then maybe dump him on someone else, or list him on LTIR or buyout and mention it in the description field for your ACGM "Holl dumped anywhere"

Of course at some point yes, a team will take him. He’s not horrible and is a capable d man in the NHL. That being said, TML fans think he is so great, yet have wanted him gone since 2020.

The fact he is used in trades for Kane, JC, Miller, and other stars and the description is “6’4 RHD at 20 minutes a night” but the next trade that person makes is” just get him out even if you get a 7th in 2030” should tell you that NHL teams know they don’t have to do anything.

The market is not there right now due to cap issues.

So the leafs get a significantly older, guy who might score 10 more points but give up much much more the other way defensively and then have to still fill anothet top 6 spot this year and then replace kane thr next year
Oh and they give up a top 4 defender for nothing and pay sandin too much and dont even give him the roster spot he wants?
Thats a series of nopes for the leafs

If holl should never have been a top 4 defender than more than half the 2nd pairing guys in the league never should have been top 4 defenders

Except that his results have stayed consistent with who ever he played with year in and year out. If the other guy on his pairing goes in the sewer it's not his fault. 4th defenders are guys who cant carry a 2nd pairing. It's what they are, it's what holl is. He's an average 4th defender.
