Going for a cup

Created by: UnkleRakesh
Team: 2022-23 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 3, 2022
Published: Sep. 3, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Foligno plays until the team is healthy and then traded for a bag of pucks/ future considerations

If Lysell is going to see NHL time, it should be on the 3rd line, not 4th, so Smitty needs to move out, sooner rather than later.

Still undecided on Studnicka, but he has put in the time and needs to cross waivers so don’t expect him to play in the A.

Reilly and Grzelyk are the odd men out on D. There are teams everywhere that need D, and these guys have played too pairing, but better suited to 2nd pairing. Reilly is needed as insurance until Grze comes back, but IF Chicago needs sweetener for that deal, one of those guys can be included. Or hopefully, they can recoup a 2nd and 3rd fort the 2023 draft.

The biggest issue I see with this roster is who is going to play the PK. Bs better become the least penalized team in hockey, or work in Studs, Steen, Krejci, Hall on the PK duties.

If they are wanting to risk it, then they could potentially not require as much salary retention on Kane.

If they can make these moves, then they may not need to put anyone on LTIR , instead accruing salary to cover overages with the $16M cap on IR (or depending on when/if Grze moves) just put Grze in LTIR.

$27M to extend Pasta, and find a 1C and 2C unless Bergy and Krejci like this composition (who wouldn’t) and Kane is willing to sign to win a few more cups.

Let’s dream and Pasta signs 8x8.8M. Kane does $8.8x2. Krejci and Bergy come back on similar contracts for at least 1 more year… $21M there, leaving $6M to fill in the other spots with whatever young guys are left.

Regardless, adding Kane improves their cup chances a ton, and offsets the loss of Marchy until he gets back. They can’t be digging themselves out of too big of a hole to even make the playoffs.

Marchy, Bergy, Kane will be one of the best 1st lines in hockey. Hall, Krejci, Pasta might just end up a top 5 line in the NHL.

Chicago gets a 1st, likely a 2/3 for Smitty at TDL, a former 1st rounder in Frederic that has more ceiling and JDB for 2yrs at a good cap hit (which if they/he play their cards right, could be another 1st and prospect at TDL). Some teams will offer more, BUT Kane should view this lineup as a strong cuo contender over some of the bigger offers that will come from teams with assets but limited shot at the cup. He has a NMC remember.

Like if Kane little a Hall and says he will only accept a trade to Boston then I guess. There will be at least a dozen other offers better than that one.
Going to need to send more to dump Foligno.

Let me give my childhood friend a call and see if he can convince Kane to make that demand smile

I’m not really interested in adding more to dump
Foligno. Send him to the minors weekly until someone claims him or save the $1.2 for a season.

No chance in hell Detroit is taking that contract off your books.

It’s basically a free pick and 1yr with a veteran leader around the team, for a team that has tons of cap space.

It's a garbage pick to take on a player we don't want or need. Make it worth our time (high pick), or we're not giving you cap help.

Sometimes very young teams want a veteran player with a strong work ethic to show the kids what it takes to play the NHL level. Not just because we have no players, you’re playing, but long term success.

Yes, Fliggy has performance issues, but they aren’t getting him to win the cup, it’s to accelerate growth of a very young team.

    I’ll concede though. How about a 5th?

We don't need vets, do you not know anything about our team?

There is not a fit here unless you're giving us a 1st and that wouldn't be wise on your end, but once again, we're not here to do anyone any favors.

    Look elsewhere.

You got me. Wrong team for this year. Next year would make more sense as your 100 UFAs walk.

Let me try Chicago or Ottawa again.

Solid idea, THE RIGHT IDEA. This is exactly what Boston needs. May need to work something out tho. Like instead of our first 2023, do second 2024 add a first 2025 and a 3rd in 2025. Add maybe a prospect and be done. Overall you have the right idea, I love this and you are going somewhere.

I can work with that. Chicago is far away so preserving the 2023 first makes sense for the Bs and doesn’t negatively impact CHI

My only issue is there is no second in 23 either so idk, cause this is supposed to be a good draft.

I see your point tho cause they would utilize this more.

It is basically help our cap situation and do it for nothing, oh and we are division rivals so again do it for the Bruins. Not to be mean, but HELL NO.
