Nylander for Tkachuk

Created by: ODOG67
Team: 2017-18 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 23, 2017
Published: May 23, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Nylander's a stud, full-stop. So is Tkachuk. Honest. He's an assist machine who plays hard, with history with both Marner and Matthews. He's an offensive version of Hyman, who hits everything that moves and plays on the edge. It's all about balance. And an eventual Stanley Cup. Or three.

None of these trades would work, every single one is in the leafs favor

-Sosh and 2 2nds favours the Leafs? Hardly. They're losing a d man for nothing via expansion. That's more than fair.
    - DAL is losing Hemsky Sharp and Hudler. They need 2nd line offense. They have said the 3 pick is in play. two first rounders as well, even though one is with conditions. Hardly lopsided.
-Is Dvorak; a 2-3C , for Freddy the Goat and Kappy lopsided to you? explain, please.
Re: Nylander VS Tkachuk, you may not really appreciate just how dynamic Nylander is. 60 points in his rookie season, IIHF gold medal champion and tourney MVP. He's insanely talented, and has deep roots to CGY for obvious reasons. A 1-for-1 isnt even close to fair value. The value differential between CGY 2018 1st and OTT 2017 2nd isn't extreme.

No issue with being critiqued, just back it up with something more than a general statement with zero rationale behind it.

Agreed. It's an interesting trade - Nylander was actually born in Calgary - but I feel like the Flames would have to add more than the pick swap listed here.

The Dallas trade is ridiculous. No way is the 3rd OA is worth even half of those assets.

So you think it's an overpay? Interesting. Opinions varying wildly. The other dude (KsixSkulls) claims the deal favors the Leafs. My rationale here is that Bozak is a good but unspectacular depth centre and JVR is hardly a lock to re-sign, hence the conditional 1st, which should read CGY 1st, not TOR.

Again, opinions varying. One guy says CGY wouldn't even do Tkachuk for Nylander straight up. Speaks to how we all value our assets.

Still think leafs get robbed in that CGY deal. However, that ducks trade is not enough. Show me how the ducks lose a defenseman for nothing since you're bringing "facts" into the argument - I'll give you a hint (you're wrong). Second, if you actually paid attention you'd know Dallas said the #3 is in play FOR DEFENSIVE HELP. Not 3rd line scrubs and a couple late first rounders. Dvorak trade is off because the pieces you're sending don't move the needle for ARZ who likes Dvorak enough to play him as the 1C even when Hanzal was there. The only thing you are right about is Nylander > Tkachuk but t everything else couldn't be even close to true so before you decide to be rude to people maybe you're the one that should come with #facts.

Just to address Tkachuk and Nylander, yeah Willy is far superior to Tkachuk. If you want to move Bozak I don't blame you but JVR? The team can't all be skill and speed and JVR can put the puck in the net still. Hard to get over losing Nylander though.

Rude? No, I haven't been rude to anyone. I simply asked for a rationale to the critique. This is all supposed to be fun. Why are you all hot and bothered (see: RUDE) ? deep breaths, friend...
    Now then...
Tkachuk will have INSTANT chemistry with Matthews. teammates from the US Hockey program and longtime friends. He's also an assist machine with the grit factor that Hyman provides. Look at his numbers. They'll be unstoppable, and when the rough stuff becomes a factor, no backward steps. He's also Marner's former linemate in London, and the thought of those three on PP1 makes me drool. It should make you do the same. Re: Anaheim, they have NMC/NTC's issued to the following: Kesler, Getzlaf, Perry, Bieksa and modified NTC's with Cogliano and Vermette. They have Fowler, Vatanen, Lindholm and Manson to try to protect as well. Those are the facts. Here's a hint for you: They're in a jam. A serviceable winger and 2 2nd rounders for a physical shutdown defender with limited offense is plenty, especially given the circumstance. Anaheim takes the deal and walks away with some modicum of appropriate compensation. Not hard to figure out...

Thanks for pointing out the particulars re: Dallas' expected return. I did not hear that. You could make that point just as easily without being unnecessarily aggressive, especially when "rudeness" is an apparent sore spot for you. I can't let you off the hook re: the 3rd line scrubs comment, because that's just not a smart thing to say about a former 2nd overall pick who scored 29 goals this year and a veteran playmaking centre with 55 points who is a face-off/shootout wizard. You need to re-think that bit of ignorance. Also, when you look at the holes in Dallas' forward group this coming year, it is inconceivable to assume that the combined 48 goals and 117 points JVR and Bozak represent would be dismissed out-of-hand, especially given the picks they'd also be entitled to.

In closing, cheer up. Life is hard enough. Don't make the thing you do for recreation cause you so much anger.

Seems like a case of Leafs fan not knowing what to do with talent. *hint* don't trade it after 1 season and at 21 years old.

Not even for a 19 year old with arguably equal talent who can generate 40+ assists on Matthews' wing while laying the body and driving goalies nuts?

That's just it, though - I'm a third party. I don't really follow either team, so I don't consider either player "my asset". I'm simply evaluating each player based on statistics and what I can see with my own eyes.

I'm not saying he's bad, but Nylander has a way higher ceiling.
