Isn't a guy a UFA after 7 seasons? Dach played 3 season with the Hawks, just signed a 4 year deal but he's still listed as an RFA once this contract ends, is that an error on this site or what am I missing?

Edit: Ah, I'm guessing his ELC slid during the shortened season and him only playing 18 games.

According the UFA rules (under CBA on the top left) he likely won't meet the age requirement.

What is an unrestricted free agent (UFA)?
A player becomes a free agent when their contract expires on July 1 after the last League Year of their contract. Any player who meets the following requirements becomes an unrestricted free agent (UFA):

1) Is 27 years of age on June 30 of the contract expiry year
2) Has seven (7) Accrued Seasons where an Accrued Season is earned when the player was on the clubs active roster for 40 Regular Season games (30 if the player is a goaltender). Games missed due to a hockey related injury will count towards an accrued season in the season of the injury, plus one additional season after the injury.
3) Meets the requirements for Group 6 UFA Status (See below)

They are overpaying in years 1 and 2 to save money in years 3 and 4 when they’ll be more competitive. It’s a risk but you need to be risky to compete with 31 other teams. You want to see average than look how further than the Canucks and their thirst for free agent overpays and bridging Petey because of their cap mess.

Since when is the age requirement 27? I swear it was 25 like a week or two when i was looking at it.

Edit: After looking, I'm pretty sure once the details of his contract are finalized and released, capfriendly will update the terms to show that he will at least be a Group 6 UFA. He meets all the requirements. Him being an RFA at the end of that contract makes no sense, unless it is allowed to be negotiated that way for some reason.

Montreal let Kotkaniemi go because he got overpaid by Carolina. But then they traded Romanov and other assets to overpay Dach? Wtf.

Real issue here is that Dach won under 33% of his face offs last year. Year before he was at 40% and the year before that he was at 33%. Not sure how he can play center and if he can’t win any face offs.

You’ve missed one important detail: a group 6 UFA is a player who is 25 and has played a minimum of three seasons BUT has played less than 80 games.
