Looks like 1980s era 4-for-4 trade

Devils not looking to move Mercer for extra Def pieces. Goalie? Maybe.

Mercer for Coronato and NJD needs NHL D-Men till Hughes & Nemec are ready. NJD has Holtz & Thompson to replace Mercer.

Who do you want Markstrom (NMC), Vladar or Wolf and what's your offer for them!?

Devils do not need defense, Hughes will be ready at the end of this year and the right side is stacked

Soooo...
Dougie Hamilton
Damon Severson
John Marino
Jonas Siegenthaler
Ryan Graves
Brendan Smith

Do they all not exist in your fantasy world?

The last thing the Devils need is NHL Dmen. Especially not at the expense of Dawson Mercer.

You want Mercer? Let's talk Huberdeau, Lindholm, Hanifin, Andersson and Markstrom.

They do exist, but I don't see Brendan Smith as being very good anymore. Swap Valimaki for Ruzicka:

Sharangovich-J.Hughes-Bratt
Palat-Hischier-Holtz
Wood-Ruzicka-Tatar
Foote-Haula-Bastian
Boqvist-Thompson

Graves-Severson
Siegenthaler-Hamilton
Kylington-Marino
B.Smith/Bahl

Again, Mercer is being swapped mainly so NJD can acquire 2021-13th Overall Pick Matthew Coronato and to make space in the line-up for Holtz. We can discuss Dustin Wolf instead of Coronato if you'd prefer a Top Goalie Prospect

I've read your replies but I still don't get why the Devils would trade Mercer. LD3 isn't a strong enough need to move him, Coronato is only a year younger than him and profiles as a similar player, and Ronni is a few years away at best. As far as making room in the lineup for Holtz, at the very worst they bring him up after the deadline if they flip out some of the Tatar/Johansson/Haula/Wood rental group.

Put it this way: I'd rather have to deal with the "problem" of trying to find ice time for both Mercer & Holtz than sacrifice Mercer to make my life "easier".

Damn, Devils' 6 or 7th Dman isn't good anymore? That'll definitely break the team...

Devils aren't trading Mercer for Coronato or Wolf. They're trying to make the playoffs, not continue the "good in a couple years" cycle.

Sure, but I'm building the CGY Flames and these NJD Players would be my targets in exchange for help on Defense and Replacement Prospects, which NJD has plenty ready to fill any vacated spots, so I don't see giving a couple up as a Big Deal, but I could be wrong and anybody can certainly say no to some or all of this.

I don't see Mercer as a Sacrifice at all, it'd just be a decision to go with Holtz & wait a year for Coronato, who could turn out be an even better player

Sure, I understand that, they're only a couple moves away from being contenders, but I'm not taking anything huge away from that. What's the difference between Mercer & Holtz really? Coronato or Wolf could turn in to even Better NHL Players than Mercer, potentially even Future Stars. NJD would certainly be Better Overall with a Better 3LD, like Kylington or Valimaki, both being Future Top-4 D-Men
