Potential Lines Per Evason

Created by: MNCountryClub
Team: 2022-23 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 15, 2022
Published: Sep. 15, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'd imagine we'll see a lot of shuffling, but interesting that they're planning to start Dumba with Midds and Brodin with Spurge.

I also worry about the Rossi/Boldy/Gaudreau line getting chewed up a bit, so wouldn't be shocked if they struggle and it prompts a shuffle.

Also sounds like Gustavsson is gonna get 30-ish games. Big oppty for him.

Wonder what happens to Jost when Greenway gets healthy?

Not that interesting, the D pairings that is. The last couple years Brodin has gotten paired with Surgeon only to be undone by Suter crying or injury or even Dumba being lost on the ice without Brodin. Dumba getting lost i think has more to do with him trying to do too much when paired with a lesser talent than Brodin.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Boldy-Rossi-Gaudreau is their best line

That would be sweet, but I just don't see it myself. Gaudreau and Boldy aren't great at driving play, given their lack of footspeed. They're both great players, but don't really drive play - Fiala was doing all of that heavy lifting.

I haven't seen enough from Rossi that leads me to believe he can step into that role next year. Eventually, I think he can, but he was too inconsistent in Iowa for me to see it this next year.

Hope I'm wrong.

Interesting in the sense of "will it actually work"....I'm concerned about Dumba and Midds being constantly hemmed in the zone. Brodin and Spurgeon are the breakout kings, the other two aren't particularly great at that side of things.

Fiala was definitely doing the heavy lifting, but Boldy is a capable play driver, good at entering the zone with possession. I agree on Gaudreau, I see Rossi having a similar rookie season as Seth Jarvis

Similar in terms of production or what do you mean? Jarvis played wing and spent the majority of his time with combinations of Aho/Teravainen, Aho/Svech, Trochek/Svech. That's a much easier environment for a rookie to come into than centering a sophomore with his own expectations/pressure and a utility bottom 6 guy.

That said, I could see Rossi getting 45ish points. If he settles into a 14-16 min/night role with PP2 duties, I think that's a successful year and good for his development. Anything above that is gravy, as far as I'm concerned.

That would be huge - I'm more pessimistic, but I appreciate your outlook and it will be cool to see how he progresses this year.

Lol Goatman should get some games this year, but probably needs another year in Iowa before he's a regular. He's got a few things to iron out yet.

Can't argue with you there. Could get real ugly for Dumba and Middleton. I'm sure the coaching staff will start this way hoping Midds and Dumba can take a step, but i see the pairs ultimately being. Middleton - Surgeon, Brodin - Dumbs, Goligoski - Addison. With Merrill rotating in.

The Suter/Dumba pair was Dumba's best season. Then he was dumb and tore his peck.

What are your thoughts about the potential arrangements here? Obviously nothing is definitive, but this is my best guess on what I could gather from Russo’s Evason article.

Storylines you’d be watching for? Concerns? Changes you’d like to see?

The nothing was for a double post.

My thoughts on this team are it won't take much or this season to go sideways quickly. I have sellers at the TDL expectations right now for the team.

Kap/---/Zucc
GREEF (if anyone of them out it's a nothing special 3rd line)
Boldy/--/--
--/Freddy G/Hartman

Brodin/--
--/Dumba
Middleton/Spurgeon

MAF (tandem quality goalie)
--

All the -- are plugs that are just filling out the roster, not quality players for that position. The yearly Brodin and Spurgeon injuries for 10ish games each. I don't think the coaching staff is good either, they are just unable to make changes to anything once the season gets going.

Kaprizov and Brodin are the only things keeping this team from being a bottom feeder right from the start of the season. I don't see any quick fixes/solutions other than hope that everyone can repeat their career years, MAF is a Vezina quality goalie, and Rossi turns into Fiala overnight.

No I know it was a double, I was just curious on your thoughts so I quoted to @ you.

But yeah, that makes sense. I don't know if I see Guerin selling unless it's really bad, but I hope he does if we're in a fringe spot.

I'm curious to see what happens with MAF if he isn't great and the season is .500-ish.
