It is unfortunate that this UFA forward class is pretty week. I mean, Bunting is probably the best winger, and I am not sold on giving him a 4-5 x $4.5m (or more) contract...

I wouldn’t mind it because he puts in the effort and wants to win. Isn’t lazy and does the little things. Would be worth it

Johansson was headed towards that mark before he was traded, and is still a better all-around player. Sprong’s offense is no doubt great in the right situation, but he struggled with larger workloads and didn’t fit the style of the 3rd line in DC.

I think a lot of people looked too favorable on him because he was young, and he would be highly regarded by a lot less people had he been a few years older. I’m glad he’s done well in Seattle where he has people to cover for him when he makes mistakes, but he made a lot of stupid plays in DC would have gotten people like Mantha crucified.


he also has a completely unsustainable (like all of seattle) 13.9 on ice shooting percentage. glad he's doing well and liked him in DC but he's not a huge shouldve kept!!!111! guy for me

This fan base needs to need patience. Some people are already giving up on sandin and Kuemper saying he was an overpay, freaking ridiculous.

If Caps did get Bedard, we really would be set up so nicely. Strome, Bedard, Backy, Dowd down the middle.

Trade Kuzy and Mantha. Trade for Debrincat and Nick S. Sign Brown to prove it deal as a cheap 3rd line winger. Sign vet 7th defender.

Ovi - Strome - Wilson
Debrincat - Bedard - Nick S
Milano - Backy - Brown
Protas - Dowd - NAK

Defense is already set. Goaltending is already set.

I think we would have to throw McM in the Debrincat trade.

I think Kuzy goes for a 1st and a solid prospect (especially if the Caps retain around $1-$2mil). Use that 1st with Caps 2023 2nd (and Mantha) for Nick S.

Then Debrincat would go for 2024 1st, McM, and probably another 2nd (or Chesley).

Something like that. I will say - I am not a fan of McM. I find it annoying how Caps fans just absolutely love him (because he is a 1st round pick and young). But he has looked tremendous recently in Hershey

Only reason why I wanna keep him but I like the plan. I honestly would rather invest in Laf than Nick S.

If Laf was the case, we would need to dump Mantha (or buy him out). That way, we would save the return from Kuzy, which would be really nice.

Laf 1x$6m would do it?

Yeah. With Oshie status unknown I would pay enough for get laf out of NY with little term and then move from there. Laf would be huge and cheaper to get

I'd rather not see him bounce back and forth right before Hershey's playoff run tbh, don't know who they'd consider calling up instead though.

Not super surprised to hear that, my only question is what type? I don't quite remember what he's had in terms of injuries but I'd have to hope it's nothing as serious as a hip resurfacing or something similar.

Ovi’s absence was only the start of their woes as they will also be without TJ Oshie, Anthony Mantha, Nic Dowd, and Trevor van Riemsdyk against the Islanders.
