So funny how almost everyone claimed he was bad and now here we are with hindsight and it all looks pretty good

who said he was bad? He's going to be a top pair defenseman in the NHL

As for Nils, top 4 but I’m not sure he’s a legit #1/#2.

lol gotcha - I mean he did trade an elite 1st line winger for scraps. It's a mixed bag so far, he's made some good and some awful moves

I think he's been average. Buch/Trochek/Goodrow were not good moves.

if he was paired with anyone besides nemeth last season, he would have been in the calder conversation. Nemeth was arguably the worst defenseman in the NHL

Nils lunkvist game isn't even remotely close to Tyson barrie. Tyson Barrie was also an elite top pair defenseman for 3 years.

Outside of Buch and Nemeth has he made any moves you could really call bad?

Well Goody provides value even if the analytics don't like him and his cap hit at least makes him movable for positive value

Gorton was miles better (glad he's moved on)
Drury's had 3 guys want out, mostly bc of depth, but he's not been nothing but neutral to good

You realize those guys wanted out as a result of not getting chances due to depth which was done mostly under Gorton… Kravs is here still and that’s from Drury patching up damage from gorton. Nils can’t cut the RD in our roster but can elsewhere and can’t really blame drury for having 3 better RD. Lias Anderson was under Gotton as well. Notice a trend? Pionk never got a proper chance either, Gorton again. Notice yet? Now he did make some decent moves but he tends to hoard youth and not give them the chance

Gorton had his great moves but he also had his AWFUL unforgivable moves. When talking about Drurys good moves his deadline was really good and his offseason trades this year also look really smart so far.

I said as much, stating the depth. Krav is here bc Drury can't get what he wants and he ruined that relationship, it's been widely known. NL I said the same. Gorton's moves are so much better than anything CD has done.
Buch oof
Reaves
Goodrows not gonna age well
Trochek should have just kept the guy ya traded for at the tdl
Listen l, I love it, keep going, but masterclass? Hardly

Kravs could very well be in KHL, or a FA if decided not to resign with NYR. He is here because he wants to be. Adding guys like Reaves and Goodrow are part of the reason we went from not being in the playoffs to conference finals.. so ya, big mistake. We went from softest to one of the hardest/toughest teams. Bad idea right. Buch, well Blais and a 2nd doesn’t seem like a huge return but no one was willing to pay more so what does that say about the guy. Too many on here think he is actually a top line player and that’s false. He’s 2nd line at best, he has hit his full potential already and wanted more money with NYR. He is paid too much as is and we didn’t need a 5th/6th winger to play in the top 6. Blais fits the need more but got injured, and at a much more cap friendly deal. This season we would have had to retain/pay to trade Buch… as for Copp, what makes you think he wanted to stay? Drury tried to resign him but couldn’t at a deal that made sense. Copp is back in his hometown which is what he truly wants. As for Goodrow and Trochek, their contracts won’t age poorly as the cap will near 100M in the next 3 years. Not to mention Goodrows contract was built to be bought out, haven’t looked into trocheks but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was similar. Masterclass isn’t a good word to describe most GMs to be fair, but Drury is trending towards that area. Lundkvist who has played lass than a season in the NHL was moved for a 1st+ and that should be considered an incredible move as we had no room for him and as you and others describe him… he was ‘disgruntled’ and asked to be traded. Hell of a return considering these points. But I agree with you, CD shouldn’t be called ‘Masterclass’ today and I’ll never refer to him as that for awhile. But he’s on a great path. And so far hasn’t hit the Zibby jackpot of a trade but I’m sure he also won’t make the massive mistakes that JG did.

I never defended the Buch trade and Reaves signing. Im not worried about trochek at 7 years (the cap will sky rocket and he is the perfect player for NY right now). Sure Ranters dont get to the semis without Gorton but we also dont get there without Copp, Vatrano, Braun, and Motte, all deadline moves by Drury. If you want to point out Gortons bad moves, Trouba 8x8, McDonagh and JT Miller for scraps, Lias Andersson pick and handling, bridging Buch causing the trade, and the Kevin Shattenkirk deal. Gorton made some great moves but also some awful ones and I personally dont think he wouldve changed too much from Drurys actions.

good TDL moves for sure. trouba? CD made him capt, can't move that contract now. if Gorton's pick of Schneider does in fact become what trouba is, then that is a bad move. Kreider, Zib, Fox all free you of that. Gorton's move of guys like Nash And Hayes etc, that's a masterclass, because those guys became picks that became Miller who you all have as stud for the next ten yrs. The first from TBL became Lundqvist, and that is now a first for CD. Grabner! Nash trade became Lindgren so you lose all your high ground.
He's no Gorton
