Move the pick forward a couple years and you got a deal.

Best I can offer is 2024 2nd. We wouldn't have a pick in the first three rounds in 2023 if we moved that pick.

I think that's a bit steep for the Robertson contract. Kaprizov got $9M as the better player with more leverage. I doubt that Hakanpaa is the odd man out on defense, it will be Miller or unfortunately Harley, and no chance that Butcher makes the team over Harley. Also Delly is only supposed to be out for 2-3 weeks, don't think that warrants LTIR consideration. A guy like Damiani still needs to play games, which he won't get as the 13th forward. 13th guy will be someone like Kero, Kivi, etc.

Based on the preseason I wouldn't be surprised if Butcher was the guy in, he's been decent. Same goes for Ryan Shea.

Damiani can take Kivi's place if necessary. Dellandrea starts on LTIR and might be relegated to AHL should it come to that. Well, him or Olofsson.

And yeah the Robo contract is more of a middle finger contract for people here who says that DAL can't afford him. We can, if our owner would just accept reality as it is.

I'm going to let that one matinate. We'll have an answer to you in 7-10 business days. Feel free to improve your offer before then for an expedited response.

The longer this goes the more you pay Robertson. I’m glad you aren’t the GM 🤣😛

Everybody keeps saying why doesn’t Dallas just get the deal done… Why is nobody asking why Robertson and his agent aren’t willing to take a bridge deal? If all the rumors are true they pretty much told the Stars “hey we know you budgeted for a very reasonable bridge deal based on comps, but we want full term so you’re just gonna need to figure it out.” He’s a young player coming off an entry level contract. I don’t care for our owner whining about it on a podcast but he isn’t necessarily wrong. I’m torn because I do think the 8 year deal now makes a lot of sense, but I can also understand them not wanting to just throw money at these young guys. Do you want Johnston, Stank, Bourque, Nils, etc all asking for the big contract immediately after their ELCs? Cuz that’s what you’re inviting if you wallet slap Robertson right now

Improve the offer?? It’s 3.33 million for one year. I think the second is too much tbh. Don’t get me wrong, teams with cap space should absolutely be asking for the moon. But if Nill gives a second to move Dobby just to pay a 23 year old who considers himself too good for a bridge deal I’ll be annoyed

F@#& man, this year is so weird, I don't even want to speculate how weird the market is going to be.

It's super complicated for us to take on Dobby with Stolarz AND Dostal at this point, though I'd personally love to see Dobby back. Verbeek is playing some unknown dimensional chess as far as I'm concerned.

In Verbeek we trust, for all else, we pay.

Yeah ok but what's the reasoning for keeping Damiani on as the 13th forward when you can get him games in the top 6 in Cedar Park? Playing a top 6 role in the AHL will be more beneficial to his development than playing a game every now and then in a bottom six role with Dallas. As for Dellandrea, there is no point in putting him on LTIR as it provides almost no cap relief, just send him down or keep him as the 13th forward till he's healthy because worst case scenario he'll only miss the first 7-10 days of the season. I could see Butcher making it as the 7th defenseman and having Harley starting out in the minors, although ideally I would like to see Miller as the 7th and Harley in the top 6.

Harley is not making the team on opening night. He is already not doing PP drills at practice and doing PK drills instead. And this after the head coach said that he was an offensive defenseman. He will probably be on the next rounds of cuts.
