In the 32 Thoughts blog says that because of the injuries accrued during the preseason, the Leafs are looking at waivers-exempt/waiver-cleared depth D-Men.

Possible targets:
- Austin Strand (ANA)
- Nicolas Meloche (CGY)
- Frederic Allard (LAK)
- Nicolas Beaudin (CHI)
- Chase Priskie (BUF)

Because the Leafs are at 50/50 SPCs, they’d have to send at least 1 contract out to add a new one. Maybe move one of Anderson/Gogolev/SDA for a D-Man of the same calibre.

Did Meloche clear? He would be a fantastic target

Was just waived yesterday, guess we will find out in a couple hrs. Absolutely I’d be ok with anyone of these guys.

I’m an ideal world you could package Simmonds with an Anderson and get a D plus open another contract slot. Need to keep one open if they wish to sign Knies after his season is over

Edit:

I’d also be in for a SDA - Beaudin swap

Simple bump-back pass turns into a great chance against...

The lack of foot speed on the backend is a little concerning.

Murray looked great

They aren't making reads quick enough either - would help cover the lack of speed.

Super sloppy play, too many turnovers, too many careless penalties

I’m not watching the game, but by the score it doesn’t look great. But I’m happy Malgin scored. I hope he proves the haters wrong.

Youre not missing much. Its a pretty typical opening night. Super sloppy on both ends, no one has looked particularly good

It’s Game 1 so not going to nit pick too much.

Very very sloppy game, Leafs got what they deserved.

Muzzin and Holl are still a terrible pair.

Malgin looked great.

Reese Kampf Kubel got out worked was not something I expected

The one thing I dont get

Keefe knows Muzzin and Holl sucks

Yes despite that its like well you know lets try again

You got other guys who can play RD just put one of them with Muzzin

Like Brodie for instance. Muzzin-Brodie was one of the best D pairings leafs ever fielded

Rielly-Holl isnt the worst idea in select situations and till Liligren returns go with that.

Anyways when Liligren returns Holls gone and we will never need to see that pairing

Hope Keefe talks to him but Rielly went back to a 2020 habit. Jumping up to much

In 2021 Rielly played more responsibly only jumping up when the time was right. This game was just jump up, jump up, jump up leading to 3 MTL goals as man those jump ups were bad decisions

Its only 1 game but if he keeps that up its a problem

Rielly Brodie where on the ice for two goals against and on for two goals for. I am with how they played, I just wish in the turnover at the blue line that lead to Caufeild goal he plays the man better (got to realize Cole is a shooter) Morgan playing the pass there was a bad read

Rielly should look at how he played in 2021 and go thats how I should play as his game looked good especially after extending. As whenever he jumped in it was in the right moment.

This rielly looked like the guy who had Ceci as a partner. A jump in turnover disaster and if u dont believe the replays highlighted that issue

Brodie can only do so much lul

Hopefully Liligren comes back soon as he should help with some issues and improve the xGF for us

Not moving Muzzin in the off-season was a mistake

Muzzin honestly looked fine whenever he was away from Holl. Whenever he was with Holl it was like he aged 10 years

Have Muzzin-Brodie be a pairing as in the playoffs that pairing was great. Keep Holl and Muzzin as far away from eachother as possible.

Muzzin is the new Holl, only looks good if he is paired with someone good, Brodie. He can’t lead a pairing anymore, that sucks cause he has a big cap hit
