I would be out on Vatrano regardless. His term is too much. We already have a skilled shooter in Jarnkrok who gives us more defensive coverage for a fraction of the cost. For Anaheim to retain for 3 years, we'd have to pay quite a bit. Even at 50% retained, Vatrano makes just a hair less than Jarnkrok. I like Timmins though

Thing is.. even if Rielly is okay, the loss of Brodie hurts. I agree with you that Brodie's injury is one of those that hamper him for the rest of the season and so at this point a trade for a D is becoming more more necessary than previously thought.

Well, that's the worst news I've heard all day.

Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if Toronto didn't make a trade. With our 3 best defenseman all out for a while, we need a defenseman that is going to push the needle and not just act as filler. Jakob Chychrun comes to mind, as even after Rielly and Brodie come back, he would still be highly impactful. That being said, the cost for a guy like Chychrun is going to be stupid. I could genuinely see us rolling a defense core of:

Sandin - Liljegren
Gio - Benn
Mete - Holl

I’m with you, if Morgan was out longer I could see them making a depth move but with Brodie potentially back next week, I believe they will just wait.

If anything, I’m interested to see Hollowell get a look. I’ve always liked him.
