Unpopular but Id do it

Created by: krakowitz

Description
More than anything, I believe the Caps' ceiling is limited because the other powerhouses in the East all have better top end talent. Adding Kane to it really gives this team one last kick at the can. The power play will improve exponentially, and the 5v5 play will be much more puck dominant. I'd be okay with giving up one of McMichael/Lapierre to get it done. I know that's an unpopular opinion, but I can't see either of them reaching their ceilings as Capitals.

From what I have seen in other offers, the trade would likely be something like McMichael/Lappierre, 2023 First rounder, and maybe a contract with another depth pick or something. Still a price you would be willing to pay?

Kane would be a nice get for them, but I wonder if they will be in a position that would convince Kane to want to join.

The caps definitely seem like a better fit than a lot of teams in terms of Kane fitting into the lineup. Kane setting up ovechkin can be absolutely ridiculous

would still much prefer someone they could reasonably extend like Hertl, would be completely fine w/ McMichael + 1st for Kane. You are right that another truly elite forward is what they need rn

I would be. The only thing left for this team to try is to upgrade the top end talent, and there won't be a better player than Kane reasonably available.

There was the TSN report that the Caps are one of the few teams he'd likely want to go to, but I don't know how much value that holds. I think it's a situation he'd enjoy, being able to play with the greatest goal scorer ever and his old buddy in Strome. That power play unit would be unreal

I can only imagine how insane the power play would be. Plus the potential for an Ovechkin-Strome-Kane line that would be absolutely vicious. Even Mantha-Strome-Kane would be unreal.

Yeah, there's certainly something there that could be attractive to him, but let's say they don't look like a lock for the playoffs or goaltending is suspect, or something else that might suggest to him that going there won't give him the best chance of winning. That's what I meant by it depends on what position they are in, are they in a position to win. If he thinks yes, then they might be an option or perhaps there's some more attractive locations.

I'm sure though he would love to be on that powerplay. I can also see him going to a playoff bound team that might not be a contender but that he's interested in signing with.

I can only imagine what the heat maps would look like for that line lol. So much red on both sides of the ice ...
