Description
This is more about the Leafs roster construction and less about specific trades. I think this is a lineup that has deep playoff run potential. What it would take to create this roster is certainly out of my depth; that's why I'm not an NHL GM.

That's not getting you Kane much less Domi as well. Kane alone = 2023 1st and Robertson or Knies. Domi right now equals a 2nd. Kerfoot and Engvall are cap dumps to the Hawks and have no value.

Sandin and Knies alone don't get you Jakob Chychrun, A 1st round pick still needs to be added to the deal.

The Domi and Kane trade is horrid for the Hawks.

And a bunch of lesser pieces isn't getting John Klingberg either. Getting Chychrun, Kane and Klingberg is pure fantasy.

I agree the deal mentioned is short for BOTH Domi and Kane, but I'd imagine Chicago would have to entertain taking cap back, both to meet the floor, and make the deal work for potential suitors.

Because arguably if Kane is being dealt, so is Toews most likely, and even with retention, and Domi gone, that's $13M off the books.

I'd agree that a Kane deal would be 2023 1st + Prospect + Cap dump to make the deal work.

Klingberg is worth the 1st, a 2nd and cap dump to fit him in with retention.

That Arizona trade needs a pick as well, especially to a rebuilding team, a B-level prospect isn't enough to make the difference between a 20+ minute defenceman and Sandin.

Chychrun isn't half as good as Arizona and many on here seem to think. He had one good season and has been average since and very injury prone. I think Sandin will be as good if not better as soon as right now. I wouldn't give up Sandin, Niemela or Knies for him.

Agree with everything you are saying except the cap floor, just like players cap hits are prorated. In other words, it's not $13M off the books simply because games are being played.

Sandin is overhyped by most Leaf fans, He has yet to live up to his draft status.

And if the Leafs want Jakob Chychrun, Then one of Sandin, Niemela or Knies will have to be included in the deal. or Chychrun goes elsewhere. It's just that simple.

Let him go elsewhere then. He's a 2nd pair defenceman and Sandin has looked good in that role so far this season.

I think that we'll get a 2023 first (and more) for Klingberg plus retention. UFA Holl at the deadline and Anderson are worthless to us.
