The 1sts would be really nice, but the Jets aren't rebuilding, so it doesn't work for them.

Nah, Hyman at 5m isn't affordable for the Leafs. They replaced him with Bunting anyways.

knies can be the next hyman too. we arent trading a PWF on a 3 year ELC whos probably good enough for a top 6 role right away

I think he replaces Bunting next year in the top 6 (assuming Robertson isn't traded/they resign Malgin), if he plays later this year I'm guessing it will be on the 2nd or 3rd line.

How does it not?

Replacing Kallgren with a Vezina winning tender is a seems to me.it improves the goaltending more than a little bit.

Now, the package is nuts, but the acquisition...... in the here and now? 100% better.

Acquiring Helly wouldn't work in any way.

WPG's asking price will be high (as it should be), and money would have to go back, increasing the cost. Edit: I didn't even notice the retention, cost goes up even more.

WPG would have to decide that they are in full tear down to do this, which means moving more than just Pionk and Helly. Something I doubt they are committed to doing right now.

I say it does not, because it's not even close to being a reality.

I think the biggest mistake was offering matthews anything between a 3-8 year deal.

Oh, the reality I get lol. If the Jets go into full scale teardown, Helly starts with a couple 1sts. Agreed.

Simply suggesting the player target (a goaltender not named Kallgren) greatly improves the team.

The worse the Sharks get, the more Reimer should be the guy. He will keep them in games at the very least.

The biggest mistake was the Marner contract.

3 years later, I will still argue he should have got Aho money of just let him sit.

Dubas has a fantastic comparable, and caved. Full stop, end of story.

Agreed that that was a mistake. However, what’s the biggest question facing the leafs right now? It’s will Matthews stay. Matthews got player friendly term and money. Has he been worth every penny? Hell ya.

That said, if Dubas had a spine back during those negotiations, and had said 8 years and McDavid money, or 3x9, matthews either has a new long term contract he got in free agency, or still has four years left.

You're not wrong, there are plenty of players that would make this team better. Just have to try and stay in the real world here in terms of expectations of who they could actually bring in.
