Nobody would trade Bourgault to get Jake Evan’s even if they got rid of Barrie. Give me a break lmao.

They have a 21 player roster and 13K in cap space, they need room to maneuver. They also need a cheap quality option to add to their bottom-6 and to replace Tyson with a cheap and efficient stop gap.

Unless they come back with cap room that's the offer on the table to solve their problems.

Dumping Barrie is worth at least a 2nd. Kovacevic would be a better third pairing D than Barrie. Evans would be a very good depth player, allowing RNH to play top 6 wing.

I don't think it's a bad offer for Bourgault. He's a good prospect, but not worth more than what he was drafted at (a 1st between 20 and 30).

trading a pretty good prospect to "dump" a 40 point player at a position of weakness and get a player the Oilers don't need and bottom pair dman that was on waviers in exchange, no thanks

Winnipeg was not expecting to lose him on waivers. I have to admit that it was a surprisingly nice pick up.

You seem to underestimate how much it costs to dump a player like Barrie with a 2 x $4.5mm contract. It cost a first to Calgary to dump Monahan and his 1 x $6.3mm contract, and Monahan is far from being finished.

Barrie has more value than Monohan did at the time of the trade.
Evans isn't anything special and is kind of over paid in my opinion. Could likely find one of many players like him for half the cost. If Edmonton can't find a trade partner to take Barrie at full cap hit they can retain and maybe find someone interested. You are not getting a top prospect for a fourth liner and a fringe dman.

The number of teams that have the capacity to absorb cap space is, to say the least, limited.

Barrie having more value than Monahan is quite an overstatement.

Your buddy is proposing this trade: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/3734336

So, is it Bourgault or a 1st and a 2nd?

PS: when you're squeezed, it's not about the value of the players but whether you are a price maker or a price taker.

Barrie has more value now than Monohan did when he got traded. Not an overstatement just plain facts. Edmonton, even though not ideal, doesn't need to trade Barrie and they definitely do not need to give up one of their top prospects to do so. Acquiring Evans might be of interest to them some way or some how but getting a fourth liner and a fringe dman is not worth what you are expecting them to give up.

First he's not my buddy and second that trade is just about as bad as this one. Also they aren't squeezed, they have a call compliant team and are winning games. Not ideal but they don't have to pay to dump anyone right now.
