To get a team to retain 2mil for 3 more years on a quality RD like Pionk feels like it would take at least Thomson and a 1st. This isn't something I think quantity of picks/assets makes up for.

I'd switch the 2nd for a top ten protected 2024 first if that makes it better.

I'm not a Jets fan but that would seem more reasonable to my eyes. Why include Hamonic and Demelo in this? Given OTT will need the extra 3mil in cap next year and the fact that JBD will almost certinly fulfill the defensive 3RD role by next year, it strike me as odd.

Hamonic was just a throw in because Winnipeg would be losing two RHDs so we give one back. DeMelo is one of the best defensive defenceman in the league so yeah I think he would be great to have.

Hmm, then you rate him much higher than I do. I know his underlying numbers are strong and that he's a good defender, but I think that's an overestimation of his abilities. No real need to argue that, though. I think OTT would be better served maintaining the extra cap flexibility for the re-signing of Debrincat, Zub, and Pinto this offseason and trust that JBD will fill out the 3rd pair.

The problem is we need someone to be on the second pair with Sanderson and Hamonic isn't the man.

According to you we will have this next year:

Chabot-Zub
Sanderson-????
Brannstrom-Bernard-Docker

The Jets won't do that retention, would also need a 2023 1st instead of a 2nd to consider this.

That's a fairly easy no for Winnipeg. There isn't a single enticing piece there to get the Jets to consider moving two top 4 defensemen even without considering the retention.

If the 2nd Rounder is changed to a 1st, then the value might not be too far off(?) But from a roster construction view, there's really no reason for Winnipeg to trade away their 2 top 4 RHD for essentially futures and a negative value player (Hamonic). Winnipeg is trying to win for the next 2 years until Schiefele and Hellebuyck need new contracts and this doesn't help them do that at all.

Add a 1st and drop the 3rd if you want retention on a top 4 D man

Well, my point was to still make the trade for Pionk, just not to include Demelo wink I think PIonk makes plenty of sense and he's someone I'd say is worth paying a bit extra to get retention on.
