Cleaning up
Wouldn't mind Nyquist for like, a 3rd or a 4th or something, but he's not worth a 2nd AND a 3rd, especially without retention.
The second trade with the Jets is terrible for Winnipeg.

1) Chicago doesn't accept that.
2) Toews is a paper tiger, way better/cheaper options out there than him

Stanley for Mittelstadt is probably fine. Gustafsson is too important though, first competent 4C we've had in years, and still quite young. Would rather not move him.

Guys 19 years old and not even playing on the KHL team because there isn't space for him (KHL isn't a development league)
He crushed all reasonable expectations last year, I'm willing to put early season struggles as an outlier. The Athletic went over the 2021 draft recently and re-ranked him 18/19th can't remember specifically, I'll take their word over both my own and some person on the internet.
He's not a "meh" prospect, if he got included in a Toews deal he would be the primary piece.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Any guarantee that Chibrikov is even coming to N America? Not sure a rebuilding Hawks team wants to take that gamble is a deal for one of their better trade chips. This deal could just as easily wind up being Harkins and a 2nd for Toews
Also question how much more Harkins is going to blossom - he's already 25 and will be playing on what will be another weak Hawks team next season.
I gotta agree w/ ChiHawk. This doesn't feel like the right pieces for Toews half retained</div></div>
No one really knows esp with the War, but the expectation is because he's not getting chances in the KHL is that he'll come over this offseason cause his contract is up.
Your gut is right about Harkins though, guy's just a tweener

Mittelstadt is one of the worse 5v5 players in the league. Would rather just trade Heinola for the 2nd than include Mittelstadt in the deal.

If I'm the Jets I might take that trade as long as the pick is protected. Not sure if Garland is really worth a first right now though.
I think the cap would force a salaried player to go back the other way anyway

Idk... you're packaging 3 players that have been struggling this season (I know Mittelstadt has been producing decently but I'm not sold on his 5v5 play) for a solid defensive defenseman + a pick.
Don't really see how Winnipeg would accept this unless they're blinded by Mitts' draft position/whatever upside is there.

Adding a Top 9 Forward
These are all pretty good targets. Garland is my favourite target because of the contract and likely costs less to acquire than some of the other guys.
I just think the bidding war for Timo would be too high for the Jets to put forward a competitive offer that doesn't gut their future. If they could somehow get Reinhart without giving up a ton he would be the best impact imo.

I know Saku had 2 goals in Chicago but I've been more impressed with Eyssimont and Harkins since they've both came up than AJF or Saku, I'd probably waive Capo and keep 2 forwards in the pressbox (really doesn't matter it's mostly depth moves).
But I agree otherwise and run with that top 9 and d-core as well.

Blowing up the team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>Because goaltenders are too inconsistent from year to year, and can't be relied upon for more than a few seasons. Their play largely depends on the team in front of them, so there's no way to know what you'll be getting when that goaltender actually suits up for your team.
With very few exceptions, quality goaltenders aren't great for more than 3 or 4 seasons throughout their entire careers. Not worth giving up a 1st. The ones that are worth it aren't getting traded.</div></div>
I mean I agree with you generally, but Hellebuyck is one of those exceptions lol. Even his "worst year" last year was still an above average goalie, and he's right back to his normal elite self this year. I'd argue one of, if not the most consistent goalies in the league

I think that would definitely be intruiging from the Jets perspective. I'm not sure what his general value is around the league, I know the Jets value him pretty highly though, he's been one of the better dmen in the AHL the past few years (analytically/production). From a cap/long-term perspective it would probably be better for the Jets to move a salaried defenseman to fit Beau's 4m.
You think the Isles would have interest in any of the non-Morrissey roster defenceman on the Jets? Or is it Heinola or go home?

It's also equally ridiculous to think that a team that is buying at the TDL is going to trade a solid starting roster player for depth help. What buying team does that?
It's a lot harder to find competent NHL defenseman, that expensive bottom 6 role players.</div></div>
Wow. Adam Henrique is not a Bottom Six winger. he scored 42 points in 58 games last year, and is off to a slow-ish start for scoring this year. But he has great underlying stats while playing on an NHL top line, even if it is on a bad team. You realize Nate Schmidt is currently playing on our bottom pairing because we have too many defensemen right? A buying team that is prioritizing both the present and the future does this trade. This is a hockey trade, not a "buying" trade. Move other assets to pick up a depth defenseman if you need one, but right now we have too many defensemen, and not enough quality forwards. You move a defenseman with a similar cap hit, contract, age, and ability. It's really just simple.
Regardless of "importance of position" Henrique as an individual player is more valuable than Schmidt is.
Anyway, doesn't happen due to trade protections

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>Nah, this would be terrible for the Jets. Trading a good starting defenseman for an older luxury player does nothing for the Jets and isn't the kind of deal you consider at the TDL. Especially getting stuck with an expensive, old LW for another year.
Schmidt simply plays a more important position.</div></div>
Schmidt is fine, but he's not a game-breaker. Henrique is a pretty good, but also not a gamebreaker. They are fairly equivalent players. You say it's a more important position, and you bring up the contract, but the Jets have too many middle-pair defensemen as it is, and not enough decent forwards. Henrique's contract is actually better than Schmidt's because it ends a year earlier. (also Henrique is only one year older than Scmidt lol). Even if you think Schmidt is better, Henrique has the better contract no question, and plays a position the JETS need more, not the more important position.
This would be a fantastic value trade for the Jets, so the fact you can't see that is kind of ridiculous.
Trade protections stop this trade in its tracks though. Henrique probably has Winnipeg on his NTC, and Schmidt might not waive for Anaheim either.

Nah this would be a great trade for the Jets.
Henrique would make our top6 better, and we're essentially trading two kinda 'iffy' contracts for each other. Plus we have younger defensemen who can replace what Schmidt brings on the ice.
But you're right Henrique likely has Winnipeg on his NTC, and I highly doubt Anaheim would do this trade.

I highly doubt Buffalo would do that WPG trade, especially with retention (also Appleton is out long-term right now). Downgrading the player and the only compensation is moving up a round in the draft.

Lol. No. Eichel and Hall actually outchance their opponents. Olofsson gets no actual chances and gives up a ton. He's a shot and nothing else. Which is fine, but his 5v5 play is horrible, you can't even defend that.

The fact of the matter is, Olofsson is 11th in the league in G/60 this year.
Thompson 7th 2.12
Pasta 8th 2.01
Rantanen 9th 1.98
Svechnikov 10th 1.97
Olofsson 11th 1.95

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MisstheWhalers</b></div><div>Like who?</div></div>
So Olofsson has term left at 4.7m, and Buffalo obv would have a pretty high ask for him, which I get buy-beware from.
Jets should go two ways: mid-round pick for a rental/buy-low candidate (Dadonov, Craig Smith, Athanisou, Nyquist, a million other players like that)
Or you actually solve the Problem and swing big for a really quality player, maybe having to trade a d-man in the process: (Garland, Reinhart/Duclair, Mantha if he's available)
Olofsson is in that middle ground where he's not really good enough to be making a swing for, but also not a buy-low candidate where you only have to give up a pick for. If the Jets end up acquiring him I'm not going to mope about it, but there are other players i would prefer
re: the edit: thats obviously the case, the jets can't score right now. biggest problem. But we should target scorers who actually help the team through more than just goals.
Buffalo has been outscored with Olofsson on the ice, by significant amounts, for 3 years... That's horrible. This is a case of seeing the goals and not checking to see if its a good player, or a bad player with a good shot.

I see 7 of Olofsson's 10 goals are at even strength which is pretty decent, seems a bit streaky but most goal scorers are.
Anyone who watches the Jets can easily see they lack scoring, they really need more goal scorers whether they're scoring "empty calorie" goals or not.</div></div>
Olofsson has a good shot, which is nice. But he doesn't actually create any offensive chances and he's a terrible defensive player. There are so many better and cheaper options to improve the team.
