NJ says no thanks. They'd probably be interested in rental Tarasenko if the price is right but they won't want O'Reilly.

No question this makes Jersey better. This will then start a quick rebuild in STL?

Blues decline. We can package ROR and Tarasenko separately and probably get 2 first round picks and some more. Also have no interest in Haula or Tatar

No it doesn't. NJ won't give up Zetterlund a 1st and a 2nd for rental Tarasenko. O'Reilly they wouldn't want he's also a rental but having a terrible year (likely means he's declining fast now) and NJ is pretty happy with their depth at center anyhow.

"Having a terrible year"

ROR: 2g 2a in the last 4 games, including Ws in Vegas and Colorado...

That max retention he wants effectively cancels the 23 1st. There's a lot about this offer they would have no interest in.

Cool. He had a slump. A bad one. Most everyone in that locker room did. Time marches on, he's no longer in a slump. Last time I checked, eight games doesn't constitute a year.

My thought, after watching parts of a few Devils game this year, is that the Devils probably do not want to trade the 23 year old Zetterlund. He looks pretty good in that small sample size. It looks all well and good on paper to get O'Reilly and Tarasenko, but as another poster noted, the Devils don't need an upgrade at center unless O'Reilly is happy being plugged on their third line. More importantly though, this young Devils core is growing together, and I'd be a tiny bit afraid of the vet O'Reilly coming in, possibly entering another time when he starts losing his passion for the game, and disrupting the chemistry the young guns are building. Very small chance, and I'm not saying I've seen any evidence that O'Reilly is about to enter another tough mental phase, if he hasn't already dipped his toes in, but I'd be thinking about that if I were GM.
