Trade with Nashville if they fall out of the playoff race

Created by: mk458
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 15, 2022
Published: Nov. 17, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is the scenario if Kane is out left on the LTIR until playoffs. It's unlikely, but Evander could be out until march, so maybe he rehabs the injury a little longer and we pull off what Tampa did in 2021.

I think it's obvious that the Oilers have a hole on a #2 LHD that Broberg isn't ready to fill and neither Kulak or Neimelainin should be playing there. Also a solid Dman like Ekholm could take pressure off Bouchard and help his development.

Would the predators consider a trade like this if they're firmly out of the playoffs at the deadline? They've never been shy of trading defensemen to retool before. Obviously this only happens if Nashville struggles

Drop the condition on the 4th coming from the Preds, and I like it for NSH.

What's wrong with Puljujarvi? I look at his metrics, he seems to be playing physically, decent defensively, he just can't finishing?

Id rather give you McDonagh and get less in return but id be ok with this from Nashvilles perspective.

I doubt edmonton is willing to give up that much for an aging dman though. Then again puljujarvi's stock has to be at an all time low

I'd prefer to ship McDonagh out too, but with his NTC it's less likely.

If Holland won't include Broberg in a potential Chychrun deal, he sure as hell isn't trading him for 32-year-old Mattias Ekholm who is on the downswing of his career and under contract until he's 36.

I guess i dont get everyones love affair with chychrun. Hes an injury riddled dman who isnt great at defending.

I know ekholm is aging but hes still better at defending than chychrun imo.... he doesnt supply the offense that chychrun does but with barrie and bouchard on the right ekholm is the type of dman edmonton could use that can help take pressure off of nurse.

I do agree a 1st and broberg is more than Edmonton would part with though. I just dont understand where chychrun falls into this. I wouldnt part with broberg for him simply because chychrun cant stay healthy.

I feel like his NTC makes that more difficult

Very fair point, I'm imagining Broberg's value has gone down though. Clearly management fully intended for him to be on our roster at the start of the season, and he just didn't perform to expectations. Not to say his value has fallen off a cliff, but I could see oilers management more willing to move him.

Also personally I would take Ekholm over Chychrun. Since becoming a full time NHLer in 2016-17 Chychrun has played in 290 games. In that exact same amount of time Ekholm has played in 451. That's a staggering difference. I'll take the player I know I can count on, and Ekholm is an amazing defender

If the oilers aren't in a top 3 spot in the division by the deadline, I think Holland will be forced to make a big move, I just hope it isn't a rental.

Huh?
Broberg isn't on the Oilers roster because of injuries. He's in the AHL to get his conditioning up to par and then he'll be back on the NHL roster.

Even before the injury he hadn't impressed at training camp and the team had decided to prioritize guys who were waiver eligible. Maybe he gets a regular spot on the roster soon, maybe he doesn't. Either way he didn't progress the way he was expected to. Again, I don't think his value dropped off hard or anything, but this season hasn't started well for Edmonton, maybe Holland is forced to make a big move at the deadline. This is all just hypothetical fun anyways, I imagine Ekholm won't be available

Huh? He was injured in Penticton and was playing through it in camp. That's hardly representative and every scout in the world knows it. His value hasn't diminished at all.
