You could take Zaitsev and the first for nothing in a Monahan kind of trade, why giving players..

Ottawa currently sits in 3rd last in the nhl... a lot to give up for 4 mil in cap savings

Buffalo is giving up way too much in that first trade, it should probably cost around a 1st just to dump him
Ottawa still might decline this trade though, their 2023 1st should be untouchable

If ottawa gave up a first to get rid of him the entire front office should be terminated lol

I think that's how the market is rn, Pacioretty and a sweetener for fc, Dickinson and a 2nd for Stillman, Monahan and a first
Zaitsev isn't even good enough to stay in the nhl and he's getting paid 4 and a half mil for multiple years (not in this agm though)

I mean giving up a potential 1st overall pick in the 2023 draft to free up 4 mil would be quite ridiculous. TBH i didnt know if what i put leaving buff was enough

Well yeah, I said that Ottawa still declines because of the 2023 1st but it still costs a bit to move his contract

Ottawa pick will be top 10 easily. Without protection, Sabres accepts.

lol at 2023 1st round pick (OTT) to dump Zaitsev

That pick is Adam Fantilli as we speak

My hockey fan character live for these!

Zaitsev buyout is a no brainer. Only costs 1.67 M$ over 2 years, equivalent of 2 minimum salaries...

Jokiharju doesn't help Ottawa at all. Olofsson is nice but we won't need wingers going forward

The play is easy (even though with Dorion, nothing is easy lol)

- keep the pick
- wait for the team to get sold
- buyout Zaitsev next summer

No need to move it. They don't NEED the cap space now and he's a cheap buyout next summer

I wish people would know/understand this, would save a lot of useless discussions

I mean they were willing to trade the 6th overall pick to dump murray... this team is delusional and continues to believe their rebuild is over

First, Ottawa will not be trading this years first unless it would be for 3 first round picks in this year's draft.
Second, If Ottawa were to retain half they may find a buyer for Nikita.
Third, upon reflection Olofsson, Jokiharju, and 2023 2nd round pick (VGK) for a top 10 pick this year (maybe top 3) and Zaitsev would be a steal and Buffalo should do that.
I like both Olofsson, and Jokiharju but they are not worth a top 10 pick from this draft.

Maybe the wild would do that trade, but the Krakens certainly would not trade Bryson for Borgen.

The first Ottawa would say no but the value is very close, second maybe from each team, a big no from the Krakens on the third.

Pierre Dorion... might be the worst GM out there

What he says to sell tickets is also not very important outside of selling tickets

I am commenting about what they should do but I am not responsible for Dorion mistakes, and there has been plenty
