Because rumors are that he wants the Barzal deal, And Yzerman isn't willing to spend $9,000,000+ on him. At least that's the rumblings that're being reported.

Yzerman isn't going to let Larkin and Bertuzzi go for free. Even if they can't come to terms, he'll fleece some other GM and we'll be in an even better situation anyway. Nedeljkovic is a place holder, literally insert any other unspellable name and it'll be the same.

Ned hasn't earned a contract for next season. Soderblom will be on the team. He should get some time in Grand Rapids this season. I still think Larkin will re-sign. But Bert is definitely gone in my opinion. His words about wanting to stay in Detroit don't add up. I don't see a contract extension.
