Leafs literally couldn't do this with the 50 contract limit, but even if we could there is no way they should. As a Leaf/Flames fan i feel confident in saying that Kerfoot and Engvall have definitely under performed, and im actively thinking of trades to get rid of Kerfoot to bring in someone more useful , but that someone is most definitely not Lucic.

It certainly would be different look for the Leafs having Lucic and Rooney instead of Kerfoot and Engvall. But despite their lack scoring this year both players are performing well in their roles including the PK.
Though 3.5m Kerfoot could be a cap casualty, his ability to play centre is important to the Leafs, as they no AHLers that could really NHL good in case injuries to the current four centres. And only of the four centres is the recently promoted Holmberg.

How haven't they performed? Because they don't have a lot of points? Because both Kerfoot and Engvall are doing their job. They are strong defensively and move the puck out of our zone regularly. Who cares if they don't score that much. They don't get scored on which is the point.

Also, this is obviously a ridiculously bad trade for TO. Move two good depth pieces for nothing but bad cap.

Say what you will about Kerfoot but his versatility is invaluable. Points haven't piled up this year but he's proven he can do it, can play any line 1 through 4, PK or PP (if needed), and can play center in the bottom 6 or if there's injuries in the top 6, is well trusted defensively. Unless we went out and acquired an upgrade at 3C I can't see it.
