Chicago trade is sooooooo bad. Why is everyone hating on my boy, DeBrincat. And, why they give up a 7th overall draft pick for him, and then, trade him back to Chicago. I know there pick is in there, but still, Chicago gets better in this trade, so, that pick then has less value

If you're dumping him off for salary reasons I don't see why the Ducks should give you any capital for him. Yeah i'd like to improve our defense this season, but we're not buying rentals or guys who are already suffering from declining ice time ability. We'll send you the most in demand player this year in F. Considerations.

I have a suspicion that Cat might refuse to negotiate before free agency. And if that is somehow made public or even a remotely credible rumor, no one is going to pay much for his negotiating rights just on the off chance that he is bluffing. Also, I don't think anyone would pay what is likely to be a top 3 pick even if he came with an extension, let alone adding Murphy and taking a big cap dump. Don't get me wrong, I love Cat and I would love to have him back in CHI, but paying for him just isn't in the cards for CHI while they are in this rebuild. The only way it happens is if he is a free agent and even then, I get the feeling Cat might be a bit salty toward the Hawks organization about the initial trade to OTT and would look elsewhere.

Not a chance Chicago touches that trade. Now you know why Cat didn't get the return that everyone expected; he's not signing more then a 1 year QO unless Ottawa pays huge money on a multiyear. My guess is Cat gets traded and Ottawa tries to recoup what they gave up for him but that is highly unlikely. I said this at the time of the trade and not surprised how this might play out.

That's why Chicago didn't get as good of a return as everyone expected. Cat was unwilling to sign a extension and still is unwilling. Ottawa could end up with their backs against the wall and trading him for less then they gave up to get him.

You could think of it as, whatever the difference is between what they paid and what they get for him, it will just add up to the price of having him for 1 season. Or maybe things turn around and he finds some chemistry that makes him want to stick around in OTT... IDk, I'm trying to find a positive for OTT fans here. haha. I just feel crappy throwing that trade in their face because I still love Cat even if it turns out that he does need Kaner in order to score 40 goals a season. They really handicapped their cap situation with that Stutzle extension, though. Not that it wasn't a good signing for them, Stutzle is worth every penny. It just makes it impossible to sign everyone without miracle of a cap increase.
