The rest of it is fine but it hinges on that terrible Zona deal.

I'm an Oilers fan, I like all the trades except for the one with New Jersey. Sure you may be getting a elite goalie, bit in the process your losing your teams franchise player.

the trade isn't for 2 first rounders, it's Backlund for 7th overall. ARI has absolutely no top end NHL centres at this point so it makes sense for them. Keller and Strome have promise but if they are their top 2 centres it will be another long year in the desert.

Your crazy trading off Johnny Gaudreau!

I believe Drouin is better than Johnny, and having watched him for a number of years I have some concerns. I don't think he wants to be CGY long term (his contract fiasco), his size isn't ideal in the Pacific division and finally I question how bad he wants to win, sometimes his body language suggests otherwise.

As a devils fan, I am taking this in an instant heartbeat. This is a no brainer for us IMO. We get Johnny Hockey (Jersey Boy) and we get a 1st to take a defenseman like Callan Foote or Valimakki. Hickey can maybe become a solid defenseman starting in the minors. Watched a good amount of BU games since he's been there and he's a solid player. I'm taking this all day.

Backlund's cap hit will go up on his next deal, but at anything below $5/yr, he's worth keeping. Treliving doesn't have a need to force a trade this summer for Backlund without knowing the price.

That Gaudreau deal is outrageous. Schneider is excellent, but there is absolutely no reason for CGY to lose a game breaking +80-point player to get a goalie, especially with the current dynamics in the goalie market. Including Gillies would make the trade even worse.

If CGY and NJ were to discuss a deal for Schneider, it would be at a much, much lower valuation. Drouin is an elite talent with lots of upside, but it's not worth trading Backlund and Gaudreau to get the pieces to obtain his services.
