Big Pre Deadline Moves

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 6, 2022
Published: Dec. 6, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I really dislike Edmontons bottom 6. The fact that PP, Yamamato and Holloway have done nothing this year, has really hurt this team. Edmonton needs to be all in, every year!

These are the types of changes I would make.

Probably too much going to Arizona here. What should we remove? I suggest remove Holloway. Still a huge package without him.

Thoughts?

I think 3rd for Motte at the deadline seems reasonable. How has he looked so far this year? I assume he is a good 4th line, energy, grinder type, who is good defensively. Am I correct in saying that?

He's looked decent.

We only signed him to be a placeholder in Formenton's absence.

If we are missing the playoffs, we'll likely trade him at the deadline.

Given that Vancouver got a 4th round pick for Motte last March, this is a trade Ottawa would accept.

That Arizona trade would be a great way for an Oilers GM to get fired. Out of a cannon.

I think I gave up one piece too much. Remove Holloway?

All the pieces Edmonton are receiving would be of huge help now. And 3 would help next year and beyond also.

There is no way in hell the Canucks are giving up Schenn for that, especially to a team in their own division. There is much more value in re-signing the NHL leader in hits and our most consistent defensemen on a cheap deal. Bump it up to a first and maybe we'll consider.

Habs accept, Edmonton gets defensive depth and cap space next year. Habs get a good pick and can afford to take a chance on a 26 year old in their bottom six for under 3 mill.

Those were my exact thoughts on the trade. Widemen being signed for next year makes this trade a lot more viable for Edmonton. He would be a great 7-8 option for a cup contender.

I think Vancouver should sell at the deadline. Schenn, Kuzmenko, Horvat. But leave off on great terms with all of them and try to re-sign them all in the offseason. Vancouver needs as many assets as they can get. They just aren't good enough. Schenn is having a great year (and last year). At least the fans love what he brings. So he may cost more. Time will tell what they will and can get for him!
