Not on the Zegras fan furry
I see alot of the zegras media hype, but im not sure actual teams view him the same way. Im not sure he fetches the crazy prices people have been putting forth on here either, hes only paid under 6 mill because thats his current value till he proves anything more. Id trade for him for sure, but top picks and blue chip prospects seem abit far fetched. Hes young though, could take a huge step at any point once healthy again.

Guess by on that price alone habs could look at that.. but with price still on the books doubt they hand out another giant goalie deal.

Likely realistic Habs TDL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>Fair enough. Reasonable argument. I will need to look at all potential sellers to see what other centremen may become available. Wennberg from Seattle if they sell will be very enticing to teams also. But you might have a legitimate point.
I know Barbashev got a late 1st round pick prospect. So he may be a proper comparable also. With Monahan injury history, I think his value is a touch lower. But you are making a reasonable argument!

I like ylonen, but lavoie is a big bodies finisher which probably fits the habs needs better. Has not shown it in the nhl but could be a low cost reclamation project for the habs with his ahl numbers and chl resume.

As a habs fan they should take this and move a current ld like matheson for a good return of picks or forwards. A d-core buit around chabot, guhle, hutson, reinbacher and the current kids would excel.

Actually considering his rebuilding team, hes doing fine. His xga and ga has been good, his corsi is right around 50% , hes one of the few habs defenders that hasnt been bailed out by goalies so far this year. Add in the physical game he brings and he scored 5 goals in 51 games as a rookie defenceman last year and hes been pretty solid. Im not saying hes worth a first.. just not sure you actually know how he plays

Its fine if you dont value the kid much, but you are cleary dont know his game. Hes in the nhl because he skates well, can fight, can skate with the puck, has a bomb shot that he is very good at getting to the net. He makes mistakes as all young players do, but adds everything you want in a bottom 4 defender in the playoffs especially.

What does Montembault cost MTL fans
Hughes has largely leaned towards getting nhl close prospects.. could see a Raph Lavoie and maybe a pick in the 2-4 range. His scoring touch and size could be enough with the habs finishing issues

As a collective you could argue potential values line up.. but the pieces individually do nothing for montreal. Ld is already logjammed for broberg, bourgault is being outperformed by many habs prospects already, and they have/have had a ton of picks already in recent years. Unless the first is unprotected theres nothing for them to grab onto long term.

His value is probably close to the kotkiniemi offer sheet or the recent newhook trade. Late 1st and a second, or two high 2nds. Guess imo this is abit high, not crazy absurd but abit high.

Tell me you are a biased fan without saying it, if he can play top 4 minutes on a blues team that won a cup.. why cant he play top 4 minutes on the oilers garbage defence. He 100% improves them, hes paid like a 3-4 defenceman and thats what hed be to them theres no retention here. Take your bias elsewhere, then come back without it.

Transitioning from rebuilding to competing with caution
Most of this makes good sense, think the long and relatively tame comments are proof. Only thoughts are if you trade your first for laf you are losing 4 years of team control over a high prospect in a deep draft, and you can find around 200 defencemen better and cheaper than Ristolainen. Patience is definateky the way they need to keep building

Balance out the minutes
Value wise im sure thatd be fine, but the retention is needless and unlikely. 3.5 is not alot for a top 4 defender, more likely oilers send back a yamamoto, puljujarvi, Ryan, Foegle in a deal for cap reasons.

Its low if anything for a top 6 center retained at the deadline based on all recent trade trends. A late first and a prospect that is b+ at best, a 3rd rounder that hasnt dominated at any level is hardly a high price.

Habs are not taking on 2 years at 6 mill per for a bottom 4 defender and giving up a 4th. This only happens if the jets are taking salary back like Armias contract.

All In Rebuild Time
Quick notes
- canucks/habs dont seem like logical partners here
- Avalanche trade seems fine
- habs to rangers are not giving up kidney and 1sts during a rebuild for players with less team control.
- way too much for dadanov 4th at best
- kings trade makes little sense, 5 mill is too much to take on for 3 years as the youth starts getting paid. Maysll just keep allen they have lots of picks already

Habs accept, Edmonton gets defensive depth and cap space next year. Habs get a good pick and can afford to take a chance on a 26 year old in their bottom six for under 3 mill.

Boeser
Anderson probably has a higher trade value then boeser simply because vancouver cant stop ruining their own players values and making bad contract decisions. Anderson is viewed as an nhl unicorn thats scores, hits, and fights, an nhl gm wet dream.. whereas boeser is seen as a soft scorer with injury issues. These arent my evaluations and values, but this is what insiders and team medias write about each player. League reputations matter to gms and pro scouts which is why values often seem off to the public in trades
