Change of scenery

Created by: ginandtacos
Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 7, 2022
Published: Dec. 7, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Domi's trade value is a 2nd/3rd, it makes as much sense to roll the dice on a guy who badly needs a change of scenery like Jesse P.

CHI can easily swallow Foegele's contract and hope that he eats up minutes and regains some value to be flipped next season.

Hawks should be able to get more. At this point domi should be worth more than JP, and Foegle dump should cost around a 3rd

I'd almost say Puljujarvi was a cap dump himself, if I didn't think he was still a semi-desirable change of scenery candidate. Foegele may not be very expensive, but he is a cap dump none the less. Neither of them are worth a 2nd or a 3rd individually or together, though. Edmonton has to add.

Yeah I think we need to be careful about overvaluing Domi, he's a one-dimensional offensive player anyone could have signed this offseason and he couldn't get a better deal than 1 year in CHI. He's got value but let's not pretend he's gonna return a 1st or something. A reclamation project with a similar price tag is fair value, to see what Jesse P might do playing with Kane, getting PP minutes, etc.

Basically I'd rather take a flyer on a former top prospect who is struggling rather than hoard mid-round draft picks.

I didn't say anything about a 1st. But a player with essentially no trade value and a cap dump player that EDM needs to pay someone to take does not pay for a very affordable top 6 forward that is on pace for 60+ points. The point of signing Domi was to be trade bait to bring in assets for the rebuild, not to do favors for Edmonton. Also, Domi signed with CHI in free agency because he specifically wanted to come to CHI after they hired Richardson as HC. So, I get where you're coming from but taking all that salary back from EDM should increase CHI's return, not decrease it.
