San Jose is gonna have to retain to move Karlsson tho, I doubt they want all 3 of their retention spots clogged up

I don’t really see San Jose retaining or retaining that much on couture. I like the return though and think it’s fair

Probably doesn't happen for various reasons (NTC and retention mainly) but i gotta give huge props for the out of the box idea.

I just love seeing ACGMs with ideas i had never even thought of, good job!

COL doesn’t have any interest in Couture because of his contract plus that puts MacDermid in the lineup as a regular which is not good.

Others have commented that this doesn’t happen because of retention. But even if that’s not a barrier, this is way too much of a return for Couture. He’ll be 38 at the end of the contract. You just gave up a 24 year old top 4 defenseman with term, a good young prospect in Meyers, and a 1st in one of the deepest drafts in recent memory. Easy no

Cost controlled 2nd line centre who has a habit of bringing his best in the playoffs, not just for this year but for the next three to four cup runs, and you don't want him? Byram is graduating and needs a new contract. Same with Newhook, who now has room to grow into the role of being your 2C as opposed to being forced into it. You keep both.

All it costs you is a 5mil D off your roster and two prospects (Myers + late 1st) who *might* be something. All this before MacKinnon's deal starts at 12+ mill a year.

VAN and CHI will ask more for Horvat/Toews, who you don't get to keep.

Couture is signed until he’s 38. Those contracts rarely age well. I’ll take my chances with the 24 year old defenseman instead. If Girard gets moved, it’s likely for a forward comparable in age (I’ve said Schmaltz, a few people have posted about Bennett today).

Avs decline 1 for 1, they definitely don’t add in high end assets as well

Yikes. That's an easy no for the Avs.
