Interesting.. I purposely proposed an overpayment since opposing fans usually will accept nothing less.
I assume if there is a chunk of salary retained, a first would have to be involved. But after that I don't think the Leafs really need to add much else.
In my mind, a second and a prospect or 2 could be fair as well.

If the Ducks can get a '23 1st for a 33y/o 40 point player, they need to take it. I am a fan of what Rico is so don't take this as hate. The '23 draft is too stacked

I'll second my two friends above and say I would accept this offer as the Anaheim GM. You can certainly drop the fifth.

Best package for Garland on these boards is something like a 2nd and a 3rd. Two mid-tier prospects seems like not a bad package.
Doesn't have to be those 2 guys

What about the retention? Are the Ducks the type of team to retain a couple mil for 2 seasons?

They are indeed. It's 1.5 seasons and more like 1.25 if at the tdl

I'd say Rico's value as a player is some where around a 2nd but with retention bumping that up to a 1st. He's not a straight up rental with another year of term so retained he becomes a real nice piece for a contender to fit into their middle 6.

Hirvonen should be dropped from the Leafs side. If the Leafs need to dump Engvall to make the cap works that's fine too, but I'd want a 4th (not a 5th) as a sweetener for that.

They'll retain if/when it makes sense and if they get compensated for it.

Yes, we are capable of it for the right compensation. Rico is a good player, but it's pretty clear to us that this season is already lost, and he is a UFA after next season. Due to the regime change in the head office and the signings of Strome and Vatrano, the writing is on the wall for Henrique and Silfverberg. We've already prepared ourselves for the goodbyes, so the emotional attachment isn't blinding us value wise.

Kampf is a great 3rd line center. His line usually controls the play and he is the best center on the PK and D-zone faceoffs. They need a LW power forward, Idk what games people are watching, but to take minutes away from Kampf is foolishness.

Definitely don't want to take minutes away from Kampf but the leafs need more center depth and the non-kampf bottom 6 line needs an upgrade.
Henrique can play on the wing as well so he could be a great fit at the right price and right retention.
