Why would Edmonton do that? Barrie has been their best defenseman for much of the season. He leads the team in GF% - and has since Woodcroft & Manson took over last February, both in the regular season and in the playoffs. He's on pace to score 50 points again this season and the Oilers have their sights set on going deep again this year, they aren't trading him for a middling prospect and some picks!

and Barrie is not. Barrie is awful in the D zone and 10 of 17 points this year are on the PP, which - he is not going to supplant Dahlin, so those numbers will drop off quickly.

I'll always find it hilarious when fans judge by name and not by body of work.

Un-named RHD A, since last season:
100GP
11G
47A
58Pts
~19mins a night
56.4/52.7 CF%
54.4/52.9 FF%
positive xGF/xGA both years..
$4.5M, this year and next

Un-named RHD B, since last season:
94GP
7G
48A
55Pts
~22mins a night
54.3/52.5 CF%
53.5/49.7 FF%
getting caved xGF/xGA this year (-10.3)
7M no term

dman A is obviously Barrie, who is (on this site) almost universally unwanted, while dman B is Klingberg, one of the more sought after TDL targets.. so while I'm not sitting here suggesting Barrie > Klingberg, they're not world's apart yet only one gets a bad rap.

TL;DR: Edmonton EASILY declines.

You should actually watch the games. Since Woodcroft took over the Oilers bench in February, Barrie has led the team in 5v5 goal differential. He also led the team during the playoffs too. If that's "awful in the D zone", then give me more of that.

Kilngberg is overrated as well, but where are the defensive stats. Aside from xGA, its all possession and offensive

That'll happen when youre on the ice with 2 of the highest scoring forwards in the league. Buffalo has a positive goal differential rn, does that mean their defense is good?

This makes ZERO sense if you'd only THINK for a few seconds. ALL of Edmonton's defensemen play with the same forwards, yet it's BARRIE who has the best goal differential at 5v5. That wouldn't be possible if he were "awful in the D zone" as you claim. Use your head.

Barrie isn’t remotely close in value to that trade. A 2nd would be more than sufficient. Point to whatever stats you want, when I watch Barrie in his D zone he is a liability 80% of the time. He’s a great PP QB and dangerous in the O zone 5v5, but his shortcomings are clear.
