Final piece is ROR

Created by: leafs101
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 10, 2022
Published: Dec. 10, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Top guys taking over games night in and night out. Solid, dare I say elite goaltending. Massive development from Sandin and Liljegren who have earned spots in the top 4, and steady reliable play from Holl and Gio. And the top pair's not even together yet. The D is good. Maybe a depth piece, but its good.

One thing we could use more of is depth scoring. Someone who, outside the core 4, is a threat. ROR brings that, and a whole new element - even more of an absolute matchup nightmare. He fits very well into the system of strong commitment to team defense. Makes the players on his line better (Knies?). Seems like an absolute dream scenario to bring him in.

Lastly, brings leadership and playoff pedigree, which certainly never hurts a team trying to get over their hump.

No issue for Hawks trading Blackwell but why don't the Leafs just flip Engvall instead of Hawks if it's that easy?

just skips a step of me having to trade engvall for a pick then trade a pick for a depth player lol someone would take him for a mid/late round pick no doubt

I get that but it seems more likely Engvall is a straight cap dump and doesn't have much trade value. Hawks have no reason to trade for him. Just keep Blackwell if that's the offer.

I agree on the ROR trade. Think hes the PERFECT deadline add. I would also venture to say, if he is willing to take a hometown discount at around 6.5x4/5 years, thats basically replacing Muzzin's caphit. That would be phenomenal.

Muzzin's cap hit is already being partially used, and that's 900k more. Would probably result in losing a couple of guys including Bunting and Kampf.

Knies would have to be added
He really is the only interesting prospect TOR has, maybe Robertson but Knies would be the one I think Army would want

Knies is the only non starter. Only chance he goes anywhere is for a top younger talent with term. Would move two prospects of in the realm of like choose one of Robertson or Niemela, then choose one of anyone else (except Amirov of course because of the cancer that'd be crummy) if that makes it any better
