24 year old top 4 defensemen don’t get moved for rentals.

Avs decline

Offensive defenseman getting paid $5 mil to not produce offense and get hurt often. Costs $1 mil a point right now

Value is pretty fair, just not sure if Girard is the type of player the Canucks would be interested in

Girard isn’t necessarily an offensive defenseman, he’s just short and a good skater. People who don’t watch him play make the assumption that he’s a one way defenseman. Dude’s game is all about stick work and zone exits.

But if you want to look at just points: he has the lowest on ice shooting percentage at 5v5 of any defenseman on the team (3.91%). The only defenseman in the league with a lower on ice shooting % (minimum 100 minutes played) are Jacob Bernard-Docker and Kyle Burroughs.

Dude also had the Avs iron man streak for a while, not sure where the narrative on his injury problems is coming from. Cale Makar has had worse injury luck and nobody calls him injury prone.

Value is not fair. Good luck finding a non Canucks fan that would do Girard+ for a Horvat rental.

More than likely Ave's decline as they know the ceiling they get with Sam and to be fair, if they move a someone who is consider more core than expendable, it will be in a hockey trade vs rental.

Not sure you want to bring up contracts to value when it comes to Canucks

Either way the points to salary this year is s till a bit of a weak position to claim he is no good - its not often you see top 4 D men get moved for playoff hunt teams for a rental. He has put up points every season for the most part and in reality when you look at NHL defensemen and the annual salaries, the rest of the league usually sets the bar. Seeing as his salary has him sitting about 59th overall in terms of salary, that his salary is in line with his play and should he max out his potential or continue performing the way he has he will soon be at a value for his salary.

Still better than OEL or Riley Stillman, no? Nucks need puck movers and G's zone exit rate is great. Plus Olausson is a great prospect. Plus Bo does not wanna re-sign in Van so his value is lower. Balanced deal. Nucks fan whining about it. I am Nostradamus.
