Quoting: GFD1996
Literally every logical analyst has noted the need for the Leafs to add an impact top 6 forward... Kerfoot literally brings nothing to the table other than cap balance. Why would MIN decline? Foligno has 8 points in 23 games plus they gain draft capital....
Because Engvall and Simmonds are nothing burgers to Minnesota and the 3rd and 5th aren't remotely interesting for us either.
Specifically, we turn this down for multiple reasons.
1) Marcus Foligno is one of the best defensive forwards in hockey. This isn't hyperbole. It's backed up by stats and analytics and he has been getting Selke votes for the last three years.
For reference, his line of Greenway/Eriksson-Ek/Foligno has been the best shutdown line in hockey for the last couple of years. Hell, they're the only line to allow fewer than 10 goals last year.
2) He is routinely in the top ten for hits in the league. And for a team that was already lacking in physicality and size, they decided to bring in Ryan Reaves. So they're just going to move him for that substandard return?
3) He's the beating heart and soul of the team. Kaprizov may be the engine, but Foligno is the drivetrain/transmission. It would take an extreme overpay for us to even remotely consider it, which this is not.
His leadership both on and off the ice makes him untouchable.
Frankly, points mean jacksquat when it comes to his overall value. Both Coleman and Goodrow got 1st's, that's the absolute f'ing minimum any negotiation starts with where he's concerned. And it'll
still likely take more than that for us to consider it.
