I agree that they try to keep eller right when backstrom is back just for insurance, but i think they try to hope that wilson is still on LTIR when that happens so no moves have to be made immediately.

Not trading Jensen would be a mistake when he will be looking for a BIG raise and the Caps have only 5 draft picks in 2022. You can easily get a 1st without retention or multiple 2nds

Disagree, this team can definitely compete. They're currently above .500 without the starting goaltender, 1st line RW, and only recently getting their best defenseman back. When Washington gets Backstrom, Wilson, Fehervary, and Kuemper back, the team will be in great shape to contend and I doubt they consider moving Jensen, especially as Leonsis promised Ovechkin that the team would endeavor to contend. Especially doubt they consider moving Jensen considering there wouldn't be a good replacement at 2RD and his defensive impact has been second only to Orlov.

I think Ovi will make sure that Johansson stays, and I don't really see management picking Eller over Johansson. In a pinch, Johansson can fill into the 3C role anyway, and Washington could also put Protas at C, so I don't think Washington will be committed to Eller enough to keep him around over Johansson.
