Okay, well that Tarasenko offer not gonna fly. Gotta do better than Goat and a 4th that's 2 1/2 years away.

As for Mikkola... hmm. They probably want to bring him back, but would probably also find it difficult to pass up that offer.

I feel like you're giving up more, or near the same, for Bjugstad than for Tarasenko.

I guess you're missing mention of the 1st round pick? In any case- I'm out on moving a 1st for any rental...so regardless of the "better" value on either side of this trade, I'm not making this deal. NYR are still exploring whether an answer to the needed top 6 RW is already within the org...if not, then there will certainly be much cheaper options available come TDL...may not have the name recognition of Kane or Tarasenko...but still should have the effect of filling out the NYR top 9, ready for a playoff push....without mortgaging the future.

No, I didn't miss the 1st round pick, that part of the offer is fine. The rest is not even close. So you won't have to go to the trouble of not making that deal. The offer is already DOA.

That offer isn't mortgaging the future when the Rangers have two firsts in 2023. Same reason why the Andrew Copp trade that no one disliked didn't mortgage the future either.
I'd expect a Tarasenko trade to look like the Claude Giroux trade

And that trade sure worked out well for FLA…so no thanks…sure NYR did trade a 1st for Copp last year- but that’s a bad template to follow each year

Can understand STL looking to extract every ounce of value out of whoever they move- but bend another team over the barrel- NYR pass!

I mean, yeah... It did. You gotta make a trade like that to advance. Artturi Lehkonen, Brandon Hagel, Andrew Copp, etc all look back at your hesitation over a bunch of mystery boxes

Haha what? You think the Tarasenko trade in this AGM is the Rangers being bent over a barrel???

No…the value on both sides of the trade might be right…or- as you say- Tarasenko might even warrant more…I’m just saying to stay away from that type of bidding war. Don’t trade 1st rounders for rentals! If they’re gonna move a 1st to improve for this year, it better be for a player that will be here beyond the 2023 playoff run. Building a team for 1 cup run is a fool’s errand…NYR fans have seen enough of that!

The Hagel and Lehkonen trades were the type trades good GMs make…improve for this year and the future.

The Copp move can be somewhat justified because the value went to WPG based on the condition met, and the resulting playoff experience the young guys gained from a deep run…but this is not a move to make every year.

The Giroux trade was a disaster…gave up a somewhat struggling prospect with upside, an upcoming 1st, and an upcoming 3rd…for Giroux, AHL fodder, and a 2024 5th. Then they go and get smoked in the 2nd round…please explain what went well here! This is exactly the type of trade I want Drury to steer clear from.

Okay, well that's an entirely different discussion, and I would tend to agree with you on that point. At the same time, players with term do cost more. And there are teams out there that are truly desperate to win a Cup, so their view of "going all in" may differ and I totally understand why. Also, there are teams out there in a contending mindset that have great depth of prospects to play with. For example, if you have two strong, at least somewhat young and locked down goalies as well as 2-3 nice goalie prospects, you'd be much more comfortable trading, say, a big time goalie prospect for something you lack. It's all very fluid, no two teams have the exact same situation.

Spot on regarding different teams having a different level of desperation, a different set-up of upcoming players, and thus a different takes on what's acceptable in terms of going "all In". Of course-on paper- adding a Tarasenko (or Kane) seemingly improves the NYR cup pursuit this year... but I think with either addition they are still far more likely to fall short. And while NYR do have several prospects who look to be serviceable NHLers at some point, they don't seem to have the high end talent in their system that others (like LA) seem to have- so I'd be very careful forking over 1st round picks. If Othmann were shredding the AHL right now the ways he is in the juniors- I'd probably have a different take here. In the end, if STL decides to move Tarasenko, they will get a haul for him...I just think it's in NYR better interests to make lower profile deals (like Motte and Vattrano last year)-if any- to ready for a playoff run.
