McGinn's contract is too long for a cap dump and Montreal has no need for Poulin

I'll make you an offer though: McGinn and Carter for Gallagher

McGinn isn't a cap dump. You are right that Poulin doesn't have value. I still don't think Monahan is worth a 1st even with retention, but if he can stay healthy until the deadline and keep producing I bet the Habs could get a 1st.

As for the 2nd offer, no way lol. Gally is a tough SOB but that contract is ugly.

Value is fine, I doubt you know much about Seeler (because who would apart from Flyers fans) but they absolutely love him for some odd reason and probably wouldn't move him in a deal like this. Maybe replace him with a guy like Isaac Ratcliffe (Hextall 2017 2nd round pick) and you guys add a 4th or something.

Thats a deal PHI might make (Kapanen, midlevel Center prospect like Hallander and a 2nd), but not sure PHI wants a 3mil underachieving Kapanen. Pretty close though, maybe PIT adds a 5th or something.

Or as Farabee says above, PHI adds Ratcliffe and PIT adds Ty SMith so its JVR at 50% and Ratcliffe for Kapanen, 2nd, Ty Smith

Yeah the contract is too much $… if MTL would retain them I’d have that conversation…

I wouldn’t throw smith in bc he’s all we have to show for the John Marino gong show of a trade plus his upside out weighs anything else in that trade

What do I have to offer to get motte? The sens aren’t even close to making the playoffs so I expect them to move motte as a rental

Unfortunately the contract is too long for a retention. I highly doubt Kent Hughes would do it.

I mean, I'm not saying I believe they'll make the playoffs but they are 7 pts away from the Wild Card spot and have 1 game in hand, they win that game and they are 5 pts behind

It was a classic start of the season for DJ Smith but talent eventually rise. If they can get back Stutzle, Zub, JBD and then Norris while avoiding key injuries, they might finish very strong (we're not even half point)

They don't need to make the playoffs to keep Motte, their goal is to play meaningful hockey until the end, so as long as they are in striking distance, I don't think they'll trade Motte. Remember they signed him last minute because of the Formenton situation

If they fall hard by the deadline then I guess you could have him for a 3rd or something. But if you want to get him now? That would take something they need more. Do you have a good RHD to spare?

I would give up poehling if you want a bottom-6 forward with upside back or for a #3RHD you could have Friedman or Ruhwedel

I think the thing is, PIT has to add something PHI wants/needs. I get your rationale on Ty Smith, but I dont think Kapanen and a 3rd is enough for PHI, because they don't really need a RW.

No need for Poehling

Doubt that Friedman or Ruhwedel could be an upgrade (or much of) on anyone who plays RD for the Sens

Zub, Hamonic, JBD, Holden, Zaitsev, Thomson
