1 Year contracts are ok, more talking about guys like Thompson, Hintz, MacKinnon and such that are on super cheap contracts right now but have big ones coming up next year
I'm still extremely annoyed that Boston blatantly circumvented the cap and no one paused to give it second thought.
Brilliant move on their part but my team got dinged a first round pick years ago for it and deserve to get it back, now that we've decided that legal circumvention is allowed.
I really like the idea of this post! What about Bunting, Liljegren, Logan Thompson, Lindgren, Devon Toews, Nacas, Hakanpaa, Oettinger, Lindholm, and Rasmus Andersson?

Andersson is there, i agree with these choices, the ones i picked were just the ones from the top of my head

they gave Bergeron and Krejci performance bonuses that are "play 10 games".
So those contracts are really 5M for Bergeron and 3M for Krejci, with the overages being tacked onto their cap next year.
Perfectly legal though. It’s not circumventing if everyone can do it, I don’t think there are restrictions on the type of bonuses. Definitely can see the shadiness behind it though.

exactly, just like the Devils had a perfectly legal contract we were retroactively punished for.

Weird part, wasn’t the initial contract rejected and then reworked to become acceptable. Seems they wanted to prove a point with the Devils imo for the future.

Yup! Rejected and reworked. Now Boston is kicking 60% of the cap hit of two of their best players until next season and no one is saying a word!

MTL lost a shot at the cup in 2021 because Tampa had a 100M+ cap hit. Nobody said anything because it's MTL.

If you aint cheating you aint trying. Not saying I like it but I admire their win at all costs mindset (minus Mitchell Miller of course). If you find a loophole that can help you, take it. Any team can do this. What I want though is consistency from the league in dealing with stuff like this. Allow is or set a precedent and stick to it

Yeah I’m not saying I have a problem with it. I think it’s brilliant.
I just can’t believe more people didn’t pitch a fit over it, especially with all the hemming and hawing they did with Kucherov getting hip surgery lol like even if you think Kuch was healthy - I personally don’t but that’s whatever - he at least had a real, serious injury that forced his team to sideline the defending hart trophy winner. How can you be mad at that and not kicking half the cap hit of the best defensive forward in the world to the following year!
Also the Devils should be awarded pick 17 in this years draft as compensation for the pick we lost. But that’s homerism and grievance.

Bettman being Bettman. Takes one issues seriously and ignores another one
