Don't think Comrie has much value at all right now, the Comrie ship has sailed in WPG anyways!

Interesting trade with Preds and I like signing Jarry. But Jost > Mitts for me.

a 4th round pick in a future draft is essentially no value.

He's not interested in moving his Fam again, fairly certain he wants to stay put for a longer period of time. It's also my understanding that NY State has some of the highest tax rates in the country (not American so not 100% on this but it has been brought up on this site many times)

I mean he willingly played for the Rangers for several years.

Ideally, the Preds would get more in that deal, but it’s worth considering. You may be just one mi-value piece off though

Perhaps because of the high taxes in New York State, No taxes here in Florida and Nashville has a lot to do with it.

Maybe Larkin should leave high tax Michigan then for nashville

SO that was a long time ago. Players get used to playing in a no tax state. Then why would they go to a higher taxed state?

Putting him on waivers would be no value. I'd rather keep the 4th. Maybe another team takes a flyer on him but I don't know. It's too bad because I was really rooting for Comm's in Buffalo as a Jets fan. Terrific guy, hopefully he can put it together!

LOL the difference between 8x8 in Nashville is only 8x8.35 in Michigan. In other words it's pretty negligible it's still way higher in New York.

Are you using NYC tax info or upstate tax info? Because the difference isn't much more

Also, they are taxed where games are, so higher taxed states divide in half and low or no taxed states only half their salary benefit.

But Jost > Mitts for me.

Agreed.....and eventually, probably for Granato as well, based on his recent interviews where he pointed to Jost still being young at age 24 and someone that he wants to steer more towards a defensive-minded, lockdown center late in games when protecting the lead. I can't see him being a spare part and healthy scratch next year.

I don't see the Penguins letting Jarry walk at any price - as long as they have Crosby, Malkin and Letang, they'll be in "win-now" mode as last summer's extensions for the latter two proved. Without Jarry and slim pickings for proven starting goalies via trade or free agency, they would have no comparable options by letting Jarry leave.

I couldn't find a mittelstadt trade that made sense so I left him. With injuries, jost still plays 50+ games

And I'm fairly certain he'd much rather save more of his pay from being gouged by taxes now.

This taxes notion is among the worst tropes on this website.

Somehow all these teams field a roster, and many of them are highly competitive teams.

Very few huge UFA signings in these tax havens from players who came into organizations.

Also players are taxed based on where the games are, not where they live so its half the impact.

Players have accountants and investments to shield taxes as well.

That's fair, and I'm not his agent. However, I'm still of the impression it is a matter of concern for him and a deciding factor when it comes to him potentially waiving for any team.

I like the trades and I like the roster, although I'd start Jost 100 times out of a 100 over Mitts. Maybe the Preds would want to take a flyer on him instead of Bryson.

I would see no reason McDonagh would say no. You pointed out the biggest motive for him to accept that trade, Nashville is on the decline and the Sabres are trending up. Any player worth acquiring with a NTC would waive it to play for a better chance to succeed imo. Only valid reason to decline a trade where that would happen is family imo.

If the Canucks deal Horvat and relent to going younger while simplifying their cap issues, their center corps will get thin behind Pettersson so I could see Mittelstadt as a young center on affordable contract and in need of change of scenery could appear to Vancouver.....they won't probably give a lot for him but maybe a 2nd or 3rd round pick.
