Trouble with firing people, is that people that hired him in the first place have to do it. And those bosses don't like to admit they made a mistake in the first place with the hiring. This is true in any industry.
In the NHL, I know someone, and it's 99% of the time, it's GM that has the final say on player personnel. But in my years of watching hockey and pro sports in general, it's the GMs that can cause a team that be poor for a decade with poor decision making. Sometimes I think the GM has too much authority, though I don't really know what the solution is.
