Well maybe he should retire, cause if he's being traded to Buffalo he's a cap dump, so it will cost your 3rd next year and Edmonton's 5th this year. Nice chunk of change we are taking.

lol. Don't worry when Hextall is finished with you'll have no good prospects, Development stalls on all you current good prospects, and you might make the 2nd round once. The definition of Mid and Mid is the most painful place in the NHL

Trouble with firing people, is that people that hired him in the first place have to do it. And those bosses don't like to admit they made a mistake in the first place with the hiring. This is true in any industry.
In the NHL, I know someone, and it's 99% of the time, it's GM that has the final say on player personnel. But in my years of watching hockey and pro sports in general, it's the GMs that can cause a team that be poor for a decade with poor decision making. Sometimes I think the GM has too much authority, though I don't really know what the solution is.

I agree, fire Hextall. Idk about JVR though not a fan of getting him. I'd rather do Kuzmenko at like 5.5 mil, as he's much younger/better.

Not sure what's going on with Carter in this scenario? He's being traded to BUF then retiring? First off he's going to say no. Secondly - BUF would want good picks just to take him.

Its just showing that carter is retiring. He isnt being traded but the new regime would hopefully force him out. He can either retire and get the rest of his contract plus some random bonus money for being a good sport, or LTIR him for the season. With the new ownership group the money to make a deal with carter shouldnt be an issue.

Oh okay - I gotcha. If he retires though his cap hit stays though no? I'm not familiar with all the details of LTIR but I'm sure a guy has to actually be injured to be placed on it - right?

There are always ways out of a contract. Im sure a part of it would count but if Carter with a little insentive says he isnt playing in the next season i dont beleive it would count against the pens as they technically never released him.

The only way out of a Carter's contract is if he agrees to be traded to a team - like Giroux did - and they find a partner. If Carter just says he isn't playing next season his cap hit would still count. I guess you could put him in the AHL but you're only saving 1.15mil
