rebuild

Created by: jakdonaghy
Team: 2022-23 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 3, 2023
Published: Jan. 3, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This one is for the "trade meier" crowd.

Can't do a full rebuild with EK65 and Couture locked in for 4 more years. Any trade scenario feasible for them? Hard to imagine. Not to mention being locked in to Vlasic and Hertl for the rest of the decade.

Timo Time stays in San Jose baby!

Think you'd have to retain more on Couture and EK65, especially the latter one as you're looking to get Sanderson back in the deal.

Also, that's too much for Meier.
Meier's very unlikely to get equivalent or more value back than what DeBrincat got, which you're suggesting.

Hilarious.

OTT wouldn't do Sanderson for Karlsson 1-for-1, even if you retained 50% they'd still pass.

I am certain the Sabres are not interested in paying Logan Couture to be a 6M 3C from years 34-38.

The Sabres trade proposal is interesting imo

I think the value is ok, at least in the neighborhood
But at 33, idk that Couture fits our timeline all that well

I’d say it’s a maybe, bc he is a good player (obviously)
But i think we at least look at guys a bit younger as a first option- someone like Horvat for example would make a bit more sense for us (as he’s 28)

Lol, honestly I’m just trying to elicit the same rage I feel when any Shark fan suggests trading Meier.

Yeah to me the notion of A: Trading Meier or B: a full scale Sharks rebuild is nonsensical

Lol you think Timo is worth a late first alone? Devils fans seem to think he's a third line grinder.

Giroux got a first, a high/middle end prospect, and a third as a less productive, pending UFA rental. Even if the Devils can't agree on a long term extension and can't afford the 10mil QO, they can still get a big return at the draft trading his rights to a team that can afford him. Holtz hasn't proved he's an NHL caliber player yet.

If a playoff team lands Timo they will be instant top contender.

I don't think Meier is a third line grinder, I think he's great.
But rental wingers never get a blue chip prospect + a 1st in return ever and especially so without a reasonable extension baked into the trade,
So yes, either one of the 1st or Holtz are dropped from the deal or Holtz needs to be revalued as a non-blue chip prospect.

I literally just gave an example of of a rental winger that got a top prospect and a first. It was in the part you left out. Holtz value is also dropping the longer he doesn't adjust to the NHL level. Still very good potential but people assume he'll be a first line winger without any doubt and that's simply not a guarantee. And again, with Timo being an RFA, you can trade him at the draft if you're not able to re-sign him

Yeah ok but Holtz and Tippett are nowhere near equivalent prospect though, I thought that was kinda obvious but I guess not.
Holtz holds way higher market value than Tippett who has traded 5 years out from being drafted without making any meaningful impacts at the NHL level.
Holtz was drafted a little more than two years ago...
