Get Kyle Davidson his Keys pt 1

Created by: Nikolai_Khabibulin
Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 7, 2023
Published: Jan. 7, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
CHI
  1. Lyubushkin, Ilya
  2. Östlund, Noah
  3. Portillo, Erik [Reserve List]
  4. 2023 1st round pick (BUF)
  5. 2024 2nd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
**2023 Pick Top 10 Protected, Becomes 2024 unprotected 1st if necessary.

Yes, Buffalo moving their 1st doesn't seem like the brightest idea for a young team playing well barely out of the playoffs, but their prospect pool is stacked (1st on the Athletic). On top of that they have 3 2nd round picks. Ostlund is a good piece and 2022 1st rounder (16OA) but with their depth of forward prospects, he is not vital to the rebuild and may struggle to find a spot when ready. Giving this electric team a better chance at breaking the playoff draught, bringing home Buffalo's own Patrick Kane and giving Owen Power an improved veteran to be paired with, plus having Kane's leadership on the team, likely next to Cozens, could make this specific deal worth it. Portillo likely is the odd man out here for Goalie Prospects and Lyubushkin isn't terrible but isn't great value and moving him could further help Buffalo make a splash this offseason.
BUF
  1. Kane, Patrick ($5,250,000 retained)
  2. Murphy, Connor
  3. 2024 5th round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
- Kane: Ostlund and BUFFALO's 1st rounder's worth as it is likely in high teens if this deal would happen.
- Murphy : 2nd Rounder and Portillo

Taking on Lyubushkin: Has an additional year on his deal, help the hawks cap floor next season, and allows some flexibility with prospects time in AHL or NHL. Not a negative bc Buffalo has cap for days, but dealing him doesn't hurt them also.

Throw back Calgary's 2024 5th rounder to get the deal done.

This trade is made ONLY if Buffalo is in a better spot for the playoffs come the TDL. Wanted to be creative so don't be too harsh or roast away. Could be too little of a return or too much in a huge way.
2.
CHI
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (NJD)
3.

  2. 2024 4th round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Could use a backup goalie improvement, could stand to dump Myers, why not?

No TB has zero need for a backup goalie " upgrade" he's 7-2 he's played extremely well numbers can be extremely deceiving for a backup goalie especially one whose been the 2nd half of back to backs on most of his games played you want Myers take him. TB keeps their 4 you can keep stalock. Pretty much in every game he's played post game interviews at some point players say Moose kept us in there and gave us a chance to win. Often he's been the best Lightning player on the ice.

I apologize, I wasn't familiar with his game like that.

Can't see Buffalo giving that up for Kane, when you can just sign him in 7 months. And Buffalo wouldn't need you to retain so doubt you would get a 1st from us.

Don't see them giving up prospects for Kane or any rental, as you said they're fighting for a wild card spot not contenders, I'd have no problem spending picks though. Lybushkin is well liked in Buffalo and they've struggled with d depth

If Buffalo is in a stronger playoff position at the TDL, MAYBE they attempt to put themselves over the top. But I doubt they do that this year. Playoff hockey is a different game. So, even if they can make the playoffs this year, they should wait and see what they have and to what level their roster can take their game. Then over the summer and before next years TDL, get extensions hammered out, fill in the gaps and make a serious run.

That's part of the perceived problem - with all of the importance that Adams and Granato have placed on the culture and "vibes", some of the personnel decisions seem to focus more on how good a locker room presence a player is than the on-ice contributions a player makes. It's been apparent with Mittelstadt and Olofsson getting free passes for staying in the lineup despite mediocre, mistake-filled play and others like Bryson, Fitzgerald and Hinostroza sticking around as well. At some point, if they're serious about winning and taking the next step, the Sabres leadership needs to place a higher priority on using and acquiring players who are not only "nice guys" and want to be in Buffalo but also guys who have talent and can contribute more on the ice in games.

Lybushkin isn't a liability though. I'd rather have him than Bryson

Lesser of two evils - both have been liabilities in their own end this season (at least since Lyubushkin's injury in the 4th game). Bryson is more mobile while Lyubushkin more physical but both are guilty of getting caught out of position too often.

Bryson is too small as well. Bryson's game is supposed to be positioning and transition and he's doing neither
