1) Colorado doesn't have the cap to sign him to the kind of extension he wants.
2) Colorado wont move Newhook and a 1st for a rental

for those two reasons the Avs decline

That Minnesota trade is a mess. First, that value is absurd. I don't place a lot of value on Dumba, but there's no way that the difference between him and Boeser is a 1st round pick. There seems to be some positive interest in Dumba from a couple teams so paying a premium to trade him doesn't make sense. Second, we can't really afford Boeser's contract next year. We have about $17 million this offseason with a 13 man roster and several RFAs (including Matt Boldy) who will need significant raises from their current contracts. Eating over 1/3 of the available cap space for a RW (which we don't really need) is a bad idea. Third, it's been reported that the Wild don't have interest in Boeser. Michael Russo has been asked this question dozens upon dozens of times this season and has remained steadfast in his belief that Guerin would have no interest in trading for Boeser.

OTT can't afford the cap difference between Zaitsev and Myers.
MIN can't afford Boeser's cap hit next year and, due to his struggles, Boeser isn't worth that much more than Dumba. In fact, I wouldn't even consider him at his cap hit.
COL isn't trading that for a rental.
EDM might be fine with giving a 2nd for Schenn.

That Minnesota trade is absurd. There’s an argument to be made that Dumba has more value than Boeser just because he’s an expiring contract. Including a 1st is just crazy talk.

I still wouldn't really want to do it. Boeser at $5.4 million is still about a third of available cap room. If we're adding external pieces, I'd rather spend the money to try to upgrade down the middle where we are much more in need of help. We have depth on the wings so Boeser isn't really filling a hole. In an ideal world where we had cap space this summer, I'd be talking to you about trying to get Horvat since he makes a lot more sense for what we need right now than Brock does. Michael Russo has made it pretty clear that Guerin isn't interested in Boeser for this very reason.

Also, I'm not exactly sure what you mean about the pick. Are you saying that you retaining $1.25 million would make up the value difference between the two?
