Aggressive Offseason

Created by: pens1991
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 19, 2023
Published: Jan. 19, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
**Cap is supposed to go up $1 million hence my adjustment**

Completely retooling the bottom 6. I'm not sure what it would take to move Petry, but as someone that goes to a decent chunk of Kraken games, they need a strong defenseman that can anchor that Defense, and they have a lot of Center depth. With Beniers becoming their young star, and Wright in the wings i would assume he comes up full time next season.

I do think Kapanen just needs to be in the right fit and feel like Calgary could be it, they're a fast strong team and he may be able to slot in nicely there (maybe i'm wrong though).

carter was a buyout, that's just gotta go, i'd rather take the cap hit.

I think zucker would take 500k less to stay, and i think Jarry is going to want somewhere between 5-6 Million per year.

Zucker either gets Nino N deal in NSH, a little more, or can go. 3.85-4.5 is the range I’d give.

Calgary can't afford Kapanen and have no interest in him to begin with

Pass on the Seattle deal. I'd rather keep him than sign Mikkola

Petry was doing well for us before he got injured. Theres better guys in FA to sign as a 3c.

Horvat will be unattainable by the pens, Larkin will most likely stay in DET, if he doesn't again out of the pens league. Domi is an option (which i still signed to play LW). Compher and Barbashev aren't bad options, but i kind of assume Compher stays with the Avs and barbashev will get a bigger offer from someone else. Some decent RFA center options, but i assume most stay with current team (Dubois, Cozens, Zegras, Chytil, Steel, Frost) Strome and Geekie could be interesting but think they could both either stay with current team or get larger offers elsewhere

Kapanen is an interesting thought.

Given this is a 23/24 trade I would be inclined to consider it if there was some salary retained; just to ease the caphit costs, could even find a 3rd party if needed.

Lucic may come back on a league minimum, he's found a solid leadership role here, but he may retire soon.

Over the next 2 years, apart from moving core players, these are the kinds of deals the Flames will be limited to given how close we are to the ceiling.
