Bailey/Clutterbuck/Johnston don't bring back value - maybe the first two do at next year's deadline when they're expiring deals, but no team is going to be paying to acquire guys their age with an additional year of term - especially Clutterbuck, when you look at his age in the last year of that deal (36) and his recent injury history (not great!)
Parise value is fine, he's a Swiss army knife who can play anywhere in the lineup and is useful on both the PP & PK. He's on pace for close to 22 goals on a league-minimum salary - I understand the overages might be an issue for Boston, but this is more than fair value for him even with that - Boston saves $2.35M against this year's cap and would be able to activate DeBrusk from LTIR without having to waive anyone.
Varly would need full retention to get that kind of return. LA is an interesting destination for him but I think we wait to see how the playoff bubble shapes up before picking a destination - the Devils make a ton of sense, too. He'll have a decent market as a slightly-above-average goalie with tons of playoff experience.
I can't see a young org with a pretty weak farm system spending this much on a guy like Nelson. I also think there's value in offering Nelson with full retention if you're going to shop him - the $3M in dead cap shouldn't be a hindrance for a team that's shedding this much cap and isn't necessarily going to turnaround into serious contention in 1-2 seasons (in my eyes) so if you open up his market and get a stronger return by eating the cap, you do it.
Mayfield gets a better return - I've been adamant saying that the Josh Manson deal is the comp the Isles should look at for him - a 2nd and a strong prospect (Drew Helleson was a recent 1st rounder, much more recently than JP). I don't mind taking Pool Party back to help Edmonton with cap, but the rest of the deal would have to match the Manson value, which is much higher than a single 3rd.
