Stars aren't giving up all that for a guy who would be their 7th defenseman

Huh? Mayfield would be on the Stars top pair with Heiskanen & he'd be arguably their 2nd best defenseman overall.

I hate not having a top-64 pick in such a deep draft. I probably try to get New York to bite on a 24 2nd and an additional small piece instead, but I'm not immediately shutting down the trade if a 23 2nd is a deal-breaker

imo the 23 2nd is a need especially if the prospect included is meh. they're probably looking for a first for him. if they could swing kyrou in a deal i might be fine with a 24 pick tho

Can't see Kyrou being a piece that I'd give up here. He's having a pretty stellar year in the OHL and given how shallow the Stars are on the right side, could play a vital, long-term role in their top-4 down the road. Would be willing to add someone like Stranges/White/Karlstrom though, in order to the deal in order to bump it down to a 2024 2nd

just don't think that gets it done unless it's the only offer on the table
