Aside from torching your best assets, what do you do when Matthews comes back before the TDL

Obviously Matthews will have to co-sign this plan.

Matthews isn't going to be out until the playoffs.

And adding Kane, Toews and O'Reilly is adding over $13,500,000 no way the Leafs can afford that.

It looked like Matthews has been nursing an injury all season. Now he's injured his knee and he will be out minimum 3 weeks.

So it makes sense from the player's perspective and the team's perspective for him to rest up and be good to go in the playoffs. The regular season means nothing now for the Leafs and Matthews. Putting him on LTIR will be the smartest move to make.

ROR is enough Kane has always been terrible defensively but for all of his career prior to recently he's scored enough to offset that. Not anymore. He's a bad target. ROR makes Toews redundant

I mean, Kane's on the 2nd worst team in the league that was designed to lose. He's still an elite talent, he's just in a losing environment.

This is what people say about everyone on bad teams. The problem in Chicago is their core got old and couldn't carry the team. If Kane was still a world beater they wouldn't be a last place team.

Have you seen the roster? Half the roster is AHL lifers, it's by design. One player doesn't carry a team out of the bottom of the league.

Again the excuse for every player on a bottom team. Every fan base from bad teams want the moon for all their washed up players and say "it's because of their teammates". Kane isn't what he used to be, and he's history of being just not overly a good person makes it even worse. The Leafs can do far better
